Patrick Cote Feels He Was Getting The Better Of Anderson Silva
Quote:
In an interview from his hotel room with MMACanada.net following his bout with Anderson Silva that ended when Cote's blew out, the tough Canadian gives his thoughts on the fight:
I was in the best shape of my life, I was ready to go and I think that I proved to everybody that this guy’s not unbeatable. I think I f***ed him up really bad. My game plan was good and I think he was scared to exchange with me. I received all his best punches and all his best knees and I was still there.
Cote did walk right through all of Silva's best shots but Silva wasn't the same Silva everyone was used to seeing and Cote really had nothing to offer the champ. Also keep in mind that Cote is looking a little under the influence during the interview.

So when did he f*ck him up?

I really want whatever pain meds he's taking if he can make a comment like that and be serious about it.

He must have meant he was f*cking with Anderson's head, or something. I'm sure he doesn't believe he was beating him up.
Let's not forget that English is Patrick's second language.

The fight was heading to a decision anyway - who knows he could have got it, weirder things have happened.

he was behind in the first 2 rounds.
he didn't have Silva scared. Silva was telling his corner he had cote and was going for the kill in the 3rd.
apparently they both thought they had each other scared. That normally makes for an awesome round with lots of fireworks. Makes me even more pissed about the injury.

Why do people assume that the fight would have ended in a decision when all we saw was a little bit into the 3rd round of a 5 round fight? Relatively, we still had 3/5ths of the fight to go...

While Cote did disrupt Anderson's timing a lot, lets be honest - he landed nothing of note in this fight.
Sure, he caused Anderson to be a bit more cautious then usual, and Cote does deserve credit for that, but he never made it seem like he would or even could win that fight.
Anderson was doing what Anderson does - picking his shots, setting up his range and timing, and waiting for the right time to strike. It just so happens that Anderson respected Cote's power and chin enough that it took him longer to find those things that he was looking for.
I do believe that, in the end, Anderson would have poured it on and finished the fight. Of course there are no guarantees, but that's what I expected, anyway.
Oh, and Patrick, dude, you in no way shape or form "******him up". Not in any sense of the word, bro.

Silva's constant backpedaling had me thinking the opposite, even despite the better hits that Silva might have had.
