Anderson Silva is pissed-off, wants to fight at UFC 91!

Anderson Silva, among the best and most dominant strikers in mixed martial arts, went long stretches without doing much of anything against overmatched challenger Patrick Cote on Saturday night.

Early in the third round, Cote tore the meniscus in his right knee and the fight was stopped.

It was an odd conclusion to an otherwise solid fight card on the Ultimate Fighting Championship's first foray into the Chicago market.

Technically, the result was the ninth straight victory by stoppage for Silva, the UFC middleweight champion.

It certainly was the most bizarre fight of that stretch.

"I thought it was weird," UFC president Dana White said Monday. "It made no sense to me."

Silva landed some rattling shots during his brief moments of activity. The rest of the fight featured a combination of dancing, offering a hand to help up his downed opponent, and even a stretch of bizarre hand movements.

"I didn't come here to play. I didn't come here to put on a show," Silva said through a translator afterward. "I came here to do my job and I didn't become a champion and defend the title as many times as I have by not doing my job."

Still, White said the Brazilian indicated he wants a chance to quickly erase the spotty performance.

"He's flipping out. He wants to fight again, like, on Nov. 15," White said. "He's (upset) about his performance and he wants to fight again immediately."

It's unrealistic that White could put together a fight for one of the sport's biggest stars by that date.

Also, it's unknown at which weight class Silva will fight in his next bout. He has already moved up to light heavyweight for one fight, and White indicated he might do so again.

Seems as though the Spider isn't pleased about the criticism he's receiving. I highly doubt anyone will take up a fight against him with under three weeks notice, so I don't expect him to be fighting soon. Maybe UFC 92? That would make the card even godlier.

Hell Yeah

Hell yeah put 'em on UFC 92!!!!! I just want to say to all the people that are critisizing Anderson Silva for showboating - this is just another example of how he at least puts his money where his mouth is.

Even though this critisizm is undeserved, he wants to go on a mission to silence all the haters out there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - nobody seems to hate on Muhammad Ali and he was the biggest showboater of all time!!! Silva is makin memories baby!

Let's Bang!

Um, it's not unrealistic that Dana could put together a fight for Silva by Nov 15th. He is willing to fight at two weight classes and there are a ridiculous number of opponents who would like to face him just for the chance to fight a P4P top 2 fighter. The only thing barring such a matchup is getting clearance by the fight commission in ~2 1/2 weeks, but that's not impossible either. If Silva is serious about this I think it would really prop up the 91 card which other than the title fight is being viewed as a little weak (although I like some of the other maincard bouts).

Everybody good, plenty of slaves for my robot colony?

silva/liddell isn't a fight I really want to see.

both guys like to back up and counter. That does not by any means make for an exciting fight.

finding someone who will accept the fight with such a short training camp will certainly be difficult.

chuck is certainly dana's best chance tho. He really takes fights no matter what.

Chuck is a big money fight but come on, there are much hungrier guys at each weight still that would take this fight even if he doesn't (and I would love to see that fight so don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for it). Many fighters, especially ones without a lot of money to stop working their day job for two months before each fight to begin with, train like they have an upcoming fight all the time.

And what about someone who fought recently but won quickly without taking damage (and thus a suspension), like Thales Lietes? I don't think finding the fighter is as difficult as getting the commission sign-off in time. As unlikely as it is, it would be awesome to see Frank Shamrock or Cung Le against Silva.

Yeah... I said 2 1/2 weeks in my previous post but thanks for rounding up for me And honestly I don't know how fast the commission can process apps and stuff, but I know they have to get cleared with a doctor and then go through the bureaucracy and paperwork. Just sayin, getting someone who considers himself always ready for a fight to sign a few documents has to be faster than getting cleared with the medicals and commission.
