Kenny Florian: "I know I can hurt him from my back"
Kenny Florian talks about his upcoming clash with Joe Stevenson.
Quote:
On his upcoming clash with Joe Stevenson...
"He’s tough man. He’s tough everywhere. A lot of people are comparing him to a Sean Sherk. He’s short, strong and compact and is a good wrestler with great submission skills. He’s really good on the ground. He even has better submission skills than Sherk."
"He’s probably not as fast, but is definitely better on the ground than Sherk. He’s got phenomenal submissions and he’s taking people out left and right with his guillotine."
"I’ll have to use a lot of good posture and work my ground and pound without getting wreckless."
"I think I have a longer reach and I’m more well-rounded. I think I can beat him everywhere. For me, even in the wrestling because everyone says his wrestling is so good, but I want to test that too."
"It doesn’t matter to me where this fight goes. I believe that the fight is going to stay standing for the majority of it, but I’m ready to fight him on the ground. I’m even ready to fight him off of my back."
"I know I can hurt him from my back and beat him up from my back and submit him from my back. I’m ready for anything that this fight may bring and I can’t wait.
"Hopefully Joe is the guy that will push me and make me pull the tricks out of the bag."
"I’m looking to finish him. I want to knock him out or submit him."
On staying patient as he waits for his shot at the title...
"I take it one fight at a time and I’m just glad I’m fighting in the UFC against top competition because that’s what I want to do. Every fight is a risk and I have to keep on winning. I’ll just keep taking it one fight at a time and work my way to the title whenever it comes."
On juggling his fighting career, MMA Live and his new gym...
"I gotta pick and choose what I can do. I’ve actually had a couple offers for movies."
"I know that fighting is always going to be my first priority because that’s what got me where I am today to open up these other opportunities. Fighting comes first, ESPN second and everything after that, I plan accordingly."

Look at your sig, you would say that...
Joe Stevenson is much more likely to sub someone on the ground than Sherk...

Sherk has good top control and good GnP, but stevenson is alot more dangerous off his back and alot more likely to pull off the sub. He has the best guillotine in MMA, where as Sherk rarely even goes for submissions.

For some reason, I like the KenFlo. Hopefully he wins this one, but I see him having a much better chance standing than if it goes to the ground. Who knows...them elbows are dangerous, and he executes them pretty well from his back. Either way, I know this is going to be a sick fight and that's all I really care about.

I hope Florian wins just because I would like to see him get a title shot since Stevenson just recently fought BJ

Nothing, but Sherk has shown nothing either. Even still not really sure why this is a topic about who is better on the ground. Kenflo said JoeDaddy has better sub skills. That is all. And I don't disagree with that. In fact, that is all Joe Daddy really has at all. I think you just misread what Kenny was saying.

I like kenflo's perspective. he seems very respectful of Joe's skills, yet is confident of his own game. I think he has a better chance staying on his feet and using solid movement to out strike Joe. However, I think if he gets taken down he can still do well.
