As long as the fight doesn't turn into a ground game, Cheick has a good chance at winning it. His kickboxing ability is sick, but on the ground, he just doesn't have it.

I agree, 2 fights away from a title shot, a win over al turk and then a non HW tournament contender, werdum would have been perfect but oh well. Perhaps Gonzaga after a couple legit wins or Carwin as someone else suggested.

Kongo is the best striker in the UFC heavyweight division right now (perhaps hardonk beats him standing but he isn't anywhere near well rounded enough to be considered for a title shot). He's the only pure striker in a division dominated by wrestlers and BJJ guys, therefore the UFC will want him in the title picture to throw some variety into the mix.

Lesner would murder him, Couture probably would to but we'll see how he does aginast Lesner / Mir Nog. Mir and nog would secure a RD 1 sub if they fought now but if Kongo keeps improving he will be a legit threat to any heavyweight by the end of 2009.

I like Kongo more than most people on this board, I mean Kongo has never been subbed in the UFC. He's strong and good enough to avoid real good BJJ if there not a good athlete to go along with the BJJ. I take Kongo over Gonzaga. Gabe would have a tough time of keeping Kongo on the ground long enough for the sub.

Yeah I agree with you and to add, I bet Gonzaga would get real demoralized by Kongo untechnically muscling out of stuff and if Kongo can land some I think the third round would be his.

I think there is a good chance Kongo takes Carwin. Before Carwin brutally G-n-Ped Wain....Wain actually tagged Carwin pretty good. If Carwin is that careless with Kongo, I think Kongo could capitalize where Wain couldn't. Then again Carwin would probably respect Kongo's striking more then Wain's but maybe not Carwin likes to throw. If Congo had this guys balls he would be ridiculous.

Brock would own Kongo. Christ...he owned the guy that owned Kongo on the ground.

Randy beats Kongo by decision. Randy can just gameplan this win. Randy exploits small holes in people's game. Kongo has a one big one....unless we see a different Randy against Brock its been a while and he is the first to admit he feels older. That could change things if Randy's reaction time is slower.

Trim Werdum has the heart and gas tank that Gabe doesn't, I think he could keep Kongo scrambling on the ground enough to get the win. Fat Werdum....well we've seen him once...LOL.

Kongo v. Nog? Nog wakes up from a nightmare where to his horror, Kongo was celebrating in the octagon having KO'd Nog in the first round. Nog was happy it was just a dream until he looked down and saw Kongo's lifeless choked out head. Apparently Kongo had stumbled into Nog's room while Nog was asleep and succomb to a triangle choke.

I agree with Halebop for the most part. I think Gabe would probably beat Kongo, but aside from that, absolutely, I think Kongo is contender material in the future. People seem to think that he was owned by Herring, but I mean looking back at the fight, he could have easily won. It was a very, very close fight and an unfortunate split decision loss for him.

Not a contnder for the forseeable future. When more good heavyweights make their way to the UFC his chances will dim even more. UFC only has a tiny fraction of the best heavyweights.

He's just too slow at making things happen and he sucks on the ground. I don't care if you are a hellspawn and can bench a thousand pounds, a combo of being slow and sucking on the ground = 2nd rate fighter.
