Cheick Congo is he still a viable contender?

I see that the UFC is giving Congo an easy fight, Al Turk fights head on and isnt as technical as Congo and i see Congo KOing him in the 1st
Now that Werdum has been knocked off does this Give Congo a higher spot to challenge for the title after Couture fights Lesnar and Mir fights Nog?
I see congo being two fights from being a rightful challenger but i think the UFC are just going to leave him fighting mid tier and marking time.
What do you think?

Personally I dont see Kongo as a viable contender but he is a solid fighter and with the mess the HW division is in right now he could end up challenging for the belt, the problem is he lost to Herring, that elevated Herring but then he got manhandled by Lesnar, that leaves Herring and Kongo in limbo and frankly a win over Dan Evenson is not gonna elevate Kongo at all and neither really is Al Turk, honestly Nog losing at some point in this tournament is in the UFC's best interest as it would leave them the opportunity to elevate Dos Santos who appears to be a monster.

I don't buy into Kongo personally and think he will lose to Al-Turk.

Kongo has some good stand up and his takedowns are good but that's all I've seen from him.

I think Al-turk takes him down and pounds the crap out of him.

I believe he is a very real contender. He reminds me of a poor man's Arlovski. When he gets put on the ground he gets worked and when he's a danger on his feet.

If Kongo ever wants to be a reliable contender, he is going to start putting some of that muscle to use. He isn't busy enough in there plain and simple. He should start every fight with a flying knee or something. He should swarm his opponent. He ought to be kicking his opponents legs EVERY second he can.

Has Congo ever even taken 1 risk that might end with him taking a shot to the face? He should mix it up, if he did, I bet his punches would "win".

A groan of tedium escapes me...

Right now, no. Kongo has been stedily evolving his game in his last few appearances, showing an ability to take fights to the ground and hold his own. Before, all he would do is hold on and wait for a stand-up. He showed a sweep or two against Herring, but Herring would just sweep him back. If he continues to evolve his game, and incorporate a little bit of jiu-jitsu, he could be a force to be reckoned with.

I don't think we've seen the best out of Kongo yet. If he keeps training with Rampage and Bisping in England, he can only get better. He is an awesome physical specimine, and the resources he is being given will make him very dangerous. He could very well be a legitimate threat to any UFC HW in the near future.

definately a contender, but the hw division is wafer thin right now, so it isn't saying much. if kongo can string together 2-3 more wins then i think he'll be fighting the title. who knows, he may even be the next no1 contender after this hw tournament has been settled.

if kongo beats al-turk i'd like to see him fight carwin for a title shot. carwin is a beast against scrubs, but i'd like to see him fight some real competition.

<--- the punch that started it all!

My current favirote fighters
Anderson Silva
Junior Dos Santos
Mauricio Rua
Alistair Overeem
Jon Jones

WAR dan hardy, paul daley, ross pearson and terry etim doing it for the britz!

Not a contender. I think Carmelo Marrero would win again if they were given a second fight.

No way, Marrero would get KO'd or UD'd if the were to fight again, Kongo's wrestling is much better now

I like the way you think Halebop.

Kongo is a contender largely due to the fact that the HW division is lacking. At the very least he is a tough gatekeeper. He has his good nights and bad nights. He does need to be busy and start putting on a stand up clinic like we know he can.
