Florian has a history of grabbing the cage to avoid being taken down. He did it several times against sherk and he did it tonight as well. If Joe had gotten the slam and wound up in a more dominant position, the fight could have ended very differently.

Either way, "kenlflo" obviously does not have what it takes to be a champ, and BJ will show that, relegating him to a footnote in mixed martial arts history as a nerdy looking guy who grabbed the cage to avoid being slammed more than any other guy in history.

(yes I've been drinking)

Well then maybe Joe shouldn't have grabbed the fence to try to crawl up it and allow Kenny to sink in the choke. Let's have the ref take a point away there too, oh wait...It wouldn't have made a difference there either.

Nope, that's just fine, because when you are fighting a bitch like kenny florian it's ok to do whatever you want. Joe daddy could have brought a lead pipe and anderson silva into the cage and I would have been perfectly happy with it.

Though, I must say, that is some serious cage grabbing that joe is doing there. He probably should have been worrying more about the choke for sure. It actualy looks pretty stupid.

I don't know why some of you are so worried about the fence grabbing. There are rules in place and the ref has the job to enforce them. If a fighter grabs the cage, then he knows he is taking a chance of losing a point. That point could end up costing him. Some fighters might think that losing the point might be worth not getting slammed. I'm sure Kenny wasn't too worried either way cause in his mind he knew the fight wouldn't go the distance.

The few posts I've made have been off 2 hours sleep and I've said some dumb stuff so take this with a grain of salt, but I look at Joe's head position during the slam that never happened. I don't think the slam would have been that big or Kenflo would have been credited with an Emerson style DDT, so at best, he would have taken him down, right next to the cage in side control, maybe half guard (correct me if I'm wrong). And, if memory serves me well, Ken is not an amateur when it comes to the wall walk so I think he would have been up again. That being said, he shouldn't have grabbed the cage, but he is a "repeat offender" of sorts so I don't see him not doing it again

It's instinctive to grab the fence. It's hard to expect a fighter not to that close to the cage. That's what we have point deductions for. One should have occurred.

Yes Kenny intentionally grabbed the fence. So what? If you were about to get dropped on your head, wouldnt you grab for something? I know I would.
