why should his prior record count? it would work if he was fighting for the Pride belt...but this is the UFC...you should have to earn your UFC title shots in the UFC as far as I'm concerned...and a mediocore performance against Herring was hardly worthy of a title shot IMO

If Nog were a mediocre fighter coming into the UFC then I would agree with you, but he's not. He was without a doubt the #3/#2 Heavyweight in the World. His latest fight against Herring wasn't that bad considering he was nearly out cold and managed to comeback and still win a UD.

What you've done just in the UFC shouldn't matter, what you've done in your entire career should looked at.

Shit, even Lesnar's pro-wrestling career helped him get where he is in MMA.

The prior record in another organization matters to the UFC though. They gave Rampage a title shot after a mediocore KO of Eastman (forgive the wording - mediocore KO - but anyone can know Eastman is gonna get wrecked by Rampage), and then gave Henderson an immediate title shot at Rampage. Had Rampage not beat Liddell, Wand surely would've gotten the next crack at the title in his first fight in the UFC (since UFC 25).

Oh come on, like the UFC gives a crap. They only care when a big fight can be promoted out of the deal. Nog would have had to beat a big name UFC fighter in Pride for them to care.

Exactly what I was saying in my post. Good points.

So the names Nog beat in Pride weren't big names? Or did you mean that only when fighters beat big names in the UFC does the UFC recognize them?

Contrary to what your post implies, the UFC is not an organization run by idiots. They might tell you that the UFC is the only MMA organization, with all of the best fighters in the world, but they know some of the best are out there. To think the UFC didn't take notice of Nog's victories just because he was in Pride is foolish.

Haha, Nog's got a more impressive resume of top wins than any other HW including Fedor, I'm pretty sure that this plus a solid win earns you a title shot in a weak division TBH.

And why wouldn't the UFC care what happened in Pride, up until they bought it Pride was the superior MMA org IMO. I'm not gonna get into who had the better fighters cos we've all seen they were pretty even but Dana was begging Pride to share fighters and even let Chuck fight over there.
