Beat Randy Couture and be cursed...Brock should be worried...
If I was Brock Lesnar and had any sense of UFC history, I'd be pretty freaked out right about now. Why? Because if you're anyone not named Chuck Liddell, then getting a win over Randy Couture is almost always followed by some sort of misfortune.
- Josh Barnett took Randy's heavyweight title at UFC 36, but tested positive for steroids and was stripped of the belt.
- Ricco Rodriguez beat Randy for the title at UFC 39, but was knocked out by Tim Sylvia in his first defence and started his plunge toward discount buffets and celebrity rehab.
- Vitor Belfort stopped Randy on a cut at UFC 46, only to return at UFC 49 and be absolutely smashed by Couture. Vitor lost four of his next six fights.
Fighting Randy at all, win or lose, seems to have a negative effect on a fighter's career, even if in the short term. Gonzaga dropped his very next fight after Randy beat him. So did Tito. So did Jeremy Horn. Kohsaka lost four of his next five. tim Sylvia dropped two of his next three, capped by a Zuluzhino-like performance against Fedor. Mike Van Arsdale never won again.
Randleman is 7-9 since Randy beat him at UFC 28. Enson Inoue subbed Randy in Rings, but lost five of seven fights after that. Same goes for Valentijn Overeem, who has won nine of 24 fights since he submitted Randy. He was actually on a five-fight win streak before he fought Couture.
Scary stuff, if you ask me. What do you guys think? Should Lesnar be shaking in his rasslin' boots, or what?
