GSP beating BJ would be better for the sport (as a fan of both)

why:

1. if BJ wins we lose one champ, whereas if GSP wins we still have two
2. GSP is a great champ at 170, and a great role model for that division as well (not to take anything away from BJ, but last thing we need is to inflate BJ's head even more)
3. BJ needs to stay at 155, that division is stacked and would be much more interesting to see him spend more time vs. the contenders there, than bouncing back and forth

do u agree

If BJ wins it will **** up both the LW and WW divisions. The guy fights every 6 months and contenders will have to wait a year to get their shot. Also I really wanna see GSP vs. Alves and GSP vs. Silva.

With all due respect to the OP, do we even have to have these thoughts right now? GSP may not walk through BJ but he'll dominate.

The only way I see bj winning is via matt serra or lucky submission, but he does not have that kind of knockout power, and gsp is too good to get submitted.

Whoever is more popular is better for the sport.

I completely disagree.

While I admit that GSP is far more athletic then BJ Penn, BJ has more tools which make him dangerous. All GSP has is decent striking, and a sick take down ability. BJ has sick take down defense, and a ridiculous ground game.

Since his controversial win over BJ in 2006, when was the last time GSP smashed a solid competitor? He's crushed two has-beens, sure, but he couldn't finish Fitch OR Koscheck. Granted those two guys are mega tough and he dominated the fight, but BJ finishes fights because he has teh skills!

I understand what you mean about him 'dominating' the fight. You're basically saying GSP is turning into the Forrest Griffin, and doesn't finish guys.

I hope BJ shows why he's the Protege and I think he will!

It's gonna be a SICK fight.

Just my thoughts.

That sentence should never be used when talking about Penn. I busted out laughing at the notion that Gsp is to good to get submitted that is one of thee dumbest things I have read on here and I was here for the days of the big name trolls on this forum.

bj also has knockout power he just does not throw allot of his punches with it, he more likes to be very technical.

I am not saying gsp or bj will when but to say these things about gsp that you did is idiotic. I know you are a fan of his but come on.

He also got choked out by Penn the first time.... And the 2nd time Penn had a separated rib when he was finished.

Way to exclude his improved and impressive MMA grappling skills.

He has really good stand-up too, maybe not as crisp with the hands as BJ, but he's got a more diverse striking skill-set, not to forget much better movement.

Now you're just saying things that make no sense. He's absolutely worked everyone he has ever fought except Matt Serra (in the first fight) and BJ. Just because you don't finish someone doesn't mean you aren't making them look terrible the entire fight.

BJ's a great fighter, one of my favourites, but you need to take his balls out of your mouth. The last two fights he has had, he has been the heavy favourite to win. He hasn't faced another guy as well-rounded as himself since his loss to GSP at welterweight.

Once again, what? GSP has finished 2/4 of his opponents, even then the fights that went to decision weren't even close. He outclassed each of those 4 guys in EVERY aspect of MMA.

BJ's not the protege, he's the "prodigy".
