Question If BJ becomes a double champion... ?

Say BJ beats GSP and wins the WW championship, who gets the first shot? Florian or Alves? Then what happens to the other guy? Will he be forced to sit out for 5-8 months, just waiting? Or will he have to fight one more fight after already having been promised that his next fight will be a title fight?

Any ideas?

You just stated most of our fears as to why we didn't want this fight to happen for a belt.

First to get the shot will be Alves.

If BJ gets the belt, each contender at LW and WW will basically have to wait a year to get their shot which sucks for the fans and the fighters.

I think if BJ beats GSP, Alves should get the shot while Florian should fight Sherk, Kenny may not want to risk his shot but I generally dislike Florian so Im a little biased, actually I dont like Alves or Florian so lets let BJ fight Anderson Silva,

if his first defense is against alves, it will be a very short title reign for bj penn

I like to say if BJ wins the title from GSP, he has a good chance against alves.

stylistically it's a terrible fight for bj...he's outmuscled massively, he's an orthodox fighter (opens him up for alves front leg kick), doesn't have the td ability to bring the fight to the ground, and alves overall is a better, more versatile, and more powerful striker

I think BJ would be able to stand with Alves. I know that Alves is a more powerful guy but BJ does have good hands and woudln't have a reach disadvantage the way he will against GSP. BJ's wrestling is pretty decenty as well. he may not be Kos level of wrestling but his striking is worlds better so would be able to set up the TD's far better.

if bj holds two belts i'm selling my house, flying to hawaii and cuttin his brake lines

if bj gets to fight alves we'll finally get to see him stiff on his back, eyes in the back of his head...so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Ok lets stop the nonsense right now. I know I am a huge BJ fan, but Im gonna try to be a nuetral MMA fan in this discussion.

Thiago Alves is a very tough matchup for BJ, without question. But BJ actually faught bigger guys with better striking and was never even rocked. I challenge someone to post a gif of BJ getting rocked and put on queer street. It has never happened! So tell me how Alves is going to put BJ to sleep when noone has even rocked him. Not even LHW PHENOM Lyoto Machida.

Alves is a very good striker, with exceptional TDD. BJ is also a great striker with good TDD. But BJ has the better ground game. But the question is, can BJ take him down and use his incredible top game. He may not have the wrestling cred of Hughes or Kos but he gets takedowns when he wants them. So I wouldnt be surpised if BJ got a hold of Alves in a scramble and took his back and choked him out.

Another thing about Alves, his boxing isnt THAT great. I mean its solid, but he took some serious shots from Kos. I def think BJ can stand trade with Alves. I dunno if he will win all the exchanges but he will win a few for sure.

The bottom line is BJ has very good boxing. Alves has very good muay thai. BJ has a great chin, Alves seems to have a good chin cuz Kos hit him hard a few times. This fight seems to have close decision written all over it. Id pick BJ to win a close decision but I wouldnt be surprised at all if Alves earned enough points with leg kicks that he got the win. But either way this would be a close fight. There is noone from 185 and under that BJ couldnt at least compete with.
