UFC 91 PPV Buys

In the Wrestling Observer newsletter this week with Dave Meltzer, Mr Meltser conducted a short report on the PPV buy number for UFC 91. It did not hit the 1.2 million mark as Dana White hoped, but its not far behind.

Iíve received two preliminary estimates that put it in the 800,000-850,000 range. If those numbers hold up, it will be the second biggest UFC buyrate ever. It did not do the 1.2 million that White predicted, but I never believed this show could break a million without an incredible promotional push. It didnít get that push, but still apparently did great business.

It has been said that UFC management had predicted PPV buys in the range of 800k to 900k, and that the estimated 1.2m buys was a marketing ploy to help them get coverage on ESPN.

That is a great amount, considering the current state of the economy.

I read (don't know if it was on here) Pavlik vs. Hopkins did about 195k, which isn't too great for one of Boxings biggest fights of the year. It will be interesting to see how many Pacman/DLH gets.

So this is a nice result for UFC IMO.

800K is a great number, especially in these tough times, but far from 1.2m imo. Dana White said several times "we came to a very close number than what we predicted...", I thought he meant 1.1m or 1m, not less.

of course dana is just hyping

NO matter how much I dislike Dana, he definitely knows how to hype up his business.

i predicted 850 000 buys....that is a really good showing by the UFC...and the card wasn't even that strong....that was only the main event

dontazo 11-26-2008 05:02 PM

they should ev moved forest vs rashad to ufc 93 and replaced it with handy vs lesnar

800k is impressive but this just shows that Couture is as a draw overrated because he's never brought in big numbers even when Randy fought Chuck.
Randy's a solid draw like GSP but he's no Chuck or Tito or even Brock

For a weak card it did well.

The Oscar and Manny fight should be huge. This is actually the first fight Im excited for since the Barrera, Morales, Gatti, and Ward days.

I agree that Randy's ability to draw huge PPV numbers is overrated. There are several other fighters who draw the general public in more then him.
