I really think anyone who would discredit BJ for losing to GSP is ignorant. Anyone who has competed in a sport like wrestling, judo, taekwondo, boxing etc. knows how hard it is to bump up a weight class.
For BJ to not get finished, or even put up a fight should make him look that much better. People keep saying, BJ walks around at this and that. Fact of the matter is, BJ fights at 155, GSP could not cut to 155.
Look at Hatton who bumped up to fight Mayweather, or when Trinidad tried to fight Bhop and RJJ. Or when De La Hoya tried to fight Bhop etc etc.
People just don't seem to understand how much of a difference 15lbs is. I wrestled all through highschool at 135 and I was 'okay'. On my team was the 125 state champ who absolutely thrashed everyone in his division. But when we would wrestle, I would pretty much toss him around. 1 weight class makes a HUGE difference. And anyone who is able to bump up a division and be competitive is amazing imho.
I think it's just hard for people who haven't competed in a similar sport to understand this. And honestly, the majority of MMA fans have not.
