UFC fighter Jason MacDonald talks about Jon Fitch/Dana White situation

Quote:
From his column today on Sportsnet (Canada):

As for Jon Fitch, I’m glad to see he finally did sign the exclusive video-game agreement, which could have cost him his spot in the UFC had he not. I didn’t have any problem with signing it, even if it was exclusive. From my standpoint, why wouldn’t I want the UFC to use my name and my likeness in a video game for my lifetime? It’s not like there are other opportunities like that out there. Is Affliction going to be putting out a video game down the road? I doubt it.

The counter-argument from Ivan Trembow:

It’s also interesting to note how the UFC is preying on fighters’ lack of knowledge about other potential video game deals. We’ve seen multiple fighters, including Fitch, say something to the effect of, “Come on, who else is going to be want to put ME in a video game?” This demonstrates that they are completely unaware of the fact that the biggest video game publisher in the world, Electronic Arts, also has a mixed martial arts game in the pipeline, and unlike Zuffa/THQ, they are willing to pay fighters to be a part of it. It’s not like it would be a huge amount of money, but it shows the fighters not being aware of what they’re signing away.

I didn't know EA had plans of making an MMA game.

The EA game probably has potential, but with no UFC fighters? It probably won't even be released

Yeah, all they will have to pick from is DREAM, Affliction, Strikeforce, WVR and K-1.

I'm sure they will have enough to make the game interesting.

But the point remains the same. A frikkin' LIFETIME??? Who can say that without a doubt no MMA company will reach it's potential in ten years?

Ten years ago, NO ONE thought the UFC would be nearly this big. So now we just blindly assume no other MMA org will figure out a way to out due them in our entire lifetime???

People that believe that have waaaaaay to much confidence in a private company that doesn't have to show their books to the public. They might be losing money RIGHT NOW and no one would ever know it.

Knowing EA - they do only big-time and right now MMA is a monopoly thing and i doubt EA will make a game with any of these companies only.

None of these companies have been against co-promotions in the past. Why would it bother them when they're getting more exposure than any PPV they could put on.

They could make it a WAMMA game and include all of these guys if they chose too. In fact, that could be the selling point vs. the UFC game:

Several orgs going at each other to find the best fighter.

I would kill to have a game where I could be Fedor, Arlovski, Barnett, and Kimbo (lol!). Throw in Bob Sapp, the Shamrocks, Hellboy, Kid Yamamoto, and the rest of the crazy characters from abroad and you would have an awesome game IMO.

Tito and Frank are rumored to be in the EA game which means this will be interesting.

Meh, EA hasn't really made a fighting game or even a wrestling game (in a long time anyways). THQ has the resume seeing as they did the PRIDE game and have been producing the WWE series for as long as I can remember.

agreed, EA wipe the floor with THQ. If EA could get all the fighters from DREAM, Affliction, Strikeforce and K-1 onboard then their game could easily compete with Undisputed. Gamers aren't stupid so they will obviously choose the game which plays better. a good example of this is people choosing pro evo over fifa games because the played better despite not having the player and team names which fifa had.

Favourite Fighters:

Dan 'The Outlaw' Hardy
Anderson 'The Spider' Silva
Renato 'Babalu' Sobral
Michael 'The Count' Bisping
Thiago 'The Pitbull' Alves
Kenny 'Kenflo' Florian
Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson
