Yes he had the greatest run as WW champion. But that doesnt make him the greatest WW of all time. GSP right now would beat the Matt Hughes of 2005 10/10 times. Therefore he isnt the greatest WW of all time. The answer to that question is GSP.
i don't agree with that title very much either but it's kinda his nickname now..oh well.

Hes a great fighter. His record was top notch until 2006. His record is still amazing and he still has a claim to the best WW of all time, but GSP will take that from him in a few years. He does have a lot of issues with running his mouth though. His arrogance also plays into his recent losses.

I don't quite agree with your assessment there...the sport has evolved so much in the last few years, I mean 20 years from now, are you gonna discredit Michael Jordan as the best ever just because some new player is at the top of his game? Matt Hughes was the best and most dominant fighter of his time, he was ahead of everyone. You can't really measure greatness by comparing head-to-head skills since the sport is evolving so much.

Edit: didn't see your post there aaronnyman

I dont care for his personality at all, but during his glory days he was spectacular to watch and really pushed me into the UFC. While i dont love him, i had to choose that because i certainly dont hate him.

Kind of shocking how quickly he fell from grace tho.

I'd personally agree with Jdun, GSP is the best ever, because he is the best fighter ever. He wouldn't be the greatest champion, the most prolific but he is the best WW, in terms of skill and capability, to ever compete, and therefore he is the greatest WW of all time. It's just a matter of interepretation really.

Love him for the reasons so many others have stated. However, I really really think he should hang up the gloves after the Serra fight win or lose. The sport has passed him by and I dont want to see him go down the Shamrock road.

Well GSP just needs to prove that he can stay on the horse. He fell off against Serra, re-evaluated his career, and came back better than ever, which is the mark of a real warrior. Now hes back on this horse, stayed on it once against Fitch and just needs to continue it. A win over a full focused Penn will be great and couldn't come at a better time for GSP. GSP just needs more time and eventually he'll be able to make his claim as the greatest WW of all time.
