IMO now that Fitch got his arsh kicked and has to build his way back up, Sanchez is #2 WW contender just behind Alves. I don't wanna make excuses and stuff and I'm not big fan of Sanchez but seriously, that fight against Kos... Why the hell he didnt ask to cancel it with all the health issues and hassle he had to deal with just days/weeks before, anybody else would have cancelled. It was a Sanchez at 60% that lost to Kos, who can argue with that?
Now that split decision against Fitch, Ok he spent most of the fight on his back but he wasn't less busy than Fitch, landing shots from the bottom and going for dangerous subs + he also scored a few good TDs and showed more aggressiveness than Fitch IMO. It was a very very close fight and I know many people still give it to Sanchez.

EDIT: to conclude and answer to our OP, yeah I don't see him moving down to 155 because the timing is wrong as IMO he's #2 WW contender ATM. Wasn't the winner of Alves/Sanchez supposed to get a shot at the title?

I'd love to see him in the 155 division, he could seriously do some damage. I see very few fighters beating Diego @ 155.

What a stud

He is a top WW but he has always been a smallish WW, especially next to guys like GSP, Fitch, Kos, Alves. I think moving to LW would be a good idea. BJ would beat him but he'd have a better chance against BJ than GSP and he would roll anyone else at LW pretty easily.

if he drops to LW, he should flight Florian again in a rematch! I'd like to see that fight because Kenflo has gotten so much better since then.

Well mmaweekly has an article up about it also...

The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner, Diego Sanchez, is healthy again and looking for a fight, but despite previous reports, it has not been decided whether it will be at 170 or 155 pounds.

Sanchez posted recently on his MySpace page saying, " I'm training hard and will be dropping down to fight at 155."

When reached for comment by MMAWeekly.com, Sanchez' manager Jeff Clark from NCFC Fight Management, confirmed that his fighter is healthy and recovered from a rib injury that kept him out of his last fight. But while he has made it no secret he has a desire to move to 155 pounds, the UFC has not offered him a fight currently and he would be open to a match-up at either lightweight or welterweight.

The New Mexico native last competed in June when he defeated American Top Team fighter, Luigi Fioravanti, by TKO in the third round of their fight at The Ultimate Fighter 7 finale show.

Sanchez was slated to face top welterweight contender Thiago Alves at UFC 90 in October, but the aforementioned injury forced him off the card at the last minute.

Now healthy and training again, Sanchez is ready to get back in the Octagon and compete, but according to Clark there has been no set timeline from the UFC for his next bout.

If this turns out to be true, who do you think they would match him up with in his first LW fight. It would most likely be someone high up in the LW rankings.
