How do you figure that Kos was a worse style matchup? That makes no sense to me. I would think with Diego's traditional boxing style (that also includes great knees) and his relentless grappling and GnP game he would be worse for Thiago than a guy who relies on one punch and some takedown + lay n pray methods.

Kos and Diego have similar fighting styles in the sense that they both like to keep it standing for a lil while and then go for takedowns, one of them is a great wrestler with good control (Kos) and the other is a good wrestler with great grappling and GnP (Diego). On the other hand, Yoshida and Alves are two fighters with completely different styles and gameplans. Not even comparable in the least IMO.

I'm not saying Alves sucks nor am I trying to take anything away from his win over Kos I'm just sayin that just cuz he looked good against Kos doesn't NECCESSARILY make him as great as some of you guys are letting on. He is definately a really good fighter, just don't think he's on GSP, Fitch, or Penn's level yet. Eventually, just not yet.

I know he can ground and pound but most of the time he doesn't, well not as well as Diego does anyway, IMHO.

I still think Diego would have been a much worse fight for Thiago than Kos. I'm not going to lie either, you are a great poster but you are impossible to argue with about anything dealing with Alves, Sherk, or Lesnar. So I shall just agree to disagree.

how am i impossible to argue with? i'm making valid points which resorts you to calling koscheck a LnPer....which is outrageous...

despite being a fan of those fighters i have no illusions as to their capabilities....other people seem to...it just doesn't make sense that a division 1 all american wrestler like kos couldn't get alves down, yet i've read numerous posts about bj going to take alves down and submit him...like wtf? do people put any thought into who they predict will win fights? or do they cling to actual illusions that bj penn and gsp are godlike figures on some mystical level of greatness....do people realize how long it too penn to submit jens freaking pulver, despite being on the ground almost the whole round...oh i guess penn was just toying w/ him....

i guess there are always excuses to cling on to....like couture being too small and an overrated HW to begin with and kos not having enough time to prepare....ah , i can see it now, bj lost to alves cuz alves is a cheating roid monkey who cuts way too much weight...prepare yourself world

Alves is certainly a challenge for either GSP or BJ. Vicious legs and enough power to stop either George or Penn.

I do think he would be an underdog in both fights but I wouldn't be suprised if he caught either guy.

Keep in mind though neither GSP nor BJ are Josh Koscheck. Many seemed to think Fitch would school GSP in the stand-up; yet it was the complete opposite. GSP's speed was underestimated; BJ too is lightening quick.

Both GSP and BJ know about Thiago's leg kicks; they'll have a gameplan. Thiago also has to deal with what those two bring to the table. If Alves can't stop GSP's takedowns his leg kicks won't do squat.

It should be a good fight whoever Alves ends up fighting. Looking forward to it though.
