Yeah, Patrick posted on his FB page yesterday before the surgery. He seems pretty optimistic that he'll be able to fight before the end of 2009.

Well Cote said he was about to pick up the pace in the third which means the knock out would have come hat round. A. Silva doesnt chase people with knock out power. He didn't chase the Dan or the "Sandman". He waited for them to be aggresive and then he counters and when you are on your heals he attacks. He is only the aggressor when he is not facing people with 1 punch knock out power. The reason he was playing around, I feel, was to bait Cote into exchanging so he could counter. People seem to forget that Cote was very cautious too, he didn't go in to knock Anderson out, which is the best plan agianst Silva. He won't knock you out if you wait for him to come to you but you still wont out strike him. Cote would have had to do what he did in the first two rounds for the rest of the fight and maybe he would have gone the distance and lost a decision. Cote wouldnt b able to beat Silva playing it as safe as he did, all he did was get outscored with some pretty tought shots.

The only way they will Cote another shot is if he works his way up by beating some top 10 competition.

Hmm, maybe he doesn't have to. Just look at Brock. He didn't beat anyone that was top ten material before getting a title shot. And yet here he is, holding the belt. It's all about who puts on a good show innit?

Yeah but Cote did nothing spectacular when he fought Silva. He wasn't a threat to Silva in that fight so why would they give him another shot? Unless Cotes says he'll fight Silva for free....

Cote is a good fighter and I hope to see him return but I highly doubt he will get to fight Silva again. By the time he returns and strings together a couple of good wins I think Silva will have either moved on or been beaten

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Cote fight Silva again, but I have a feeling the first time around will be the best performance he can hope for against Andy.

Really? I know he's talking retirement and boxing, and taking fights at LHW. But who at MW do you think is capable of beating him by June (when Cote anticipates a return)? Okami?

I'm a Cote fan and I'd like to see the rematch. Obviously Anderson would be the favourite, but Cote's a tough underdog with attributes that could conceivably get him the win. In their first fight, Silva's timing and movement were clearly better. Cote didn't overcommit, showed a great chin, and was clearly executing a game plan. He took damage but didn't get into serious trouble he couldn't handle. Cote was trying to anticipate Silva's timing, but wasn't successful in the first two rounds. Sooner or later, Silva would have either stunned and finished Cote with a flurry or made a mistake and left himself open for a Cote bomb. I don't think it would have gone to decision either way.

Not saying Cote would beat Silva in a rematch, or that he was winning the first fight. However, Cote took damage but wasn't really dominated (certainly not mentally dominated) at any point in their fight. Other than Okami, there don't seem to be a lot of viable MW contenders. I hope we see Silva-Okami in March or April and Silva-Cote 2 in June or July.
