Patrick Cote Goes In For Surgery, Says He Will Beat Silva

http://www.mmanews.com/ufc/Exclusive:-P ... Silva.html

You get a shot at the world title that you have had a dream of holding your whole lifetime. You last longer in the cage with the champ than any fighter than before you. Your knee blows out on you and you lose the bout. How do you feel?

“I couldn’t believe. I was thinking “please knock me out and give me a beating.” Patrick Cote tells MMANews.com of his bout with Anderson Silva that went to the third round but ended abruptly when Cote tore his MCL and Meniscus.

Cote, who goes in for surgery today to repair the injuries suffered during the bout with Silva, recently sat down with us to give us an update on the leg.

“The leg is f***ed up, you know?” Cote says to put it bluntly. “Hopefully after the surgery everything will be fixed and I plan to return to the Octagon in June.

Although he was down on the scorecards going into the third round, Cote felt that he was in the position he wanted to be in. “I don’t think I won either of the first two rounds but going into the third we were where we wanted to be. Going into the third it was time to pick up the pace. We’ll never know what could have happened now. I was in very good condition and ready for five rounds.”

It was the first time Silva went to the third round in a bout since entering the UFC with a first round KO of Chris Leben in June of 2006. It was a lackluster performance for the champion against Cote and one that left many fans and critics scratching their heads.

“He acted a little bit weird” Cote said of Silva’s antics during the fight. “Everyone was surprised by his attitude and the way he fought but styles make fights. He knew that I wasn’t scared of him. He landed big shots and I was there coming forward and smiling at him. I wasn’t in his head though so I don’t know what he was thinking.”

The surgery will likely lead to around 6 months of recovery time for Cote who isn’t exactly sure where he will fit into the middleweight picture when he does make his return.

“It’s not my call but I will be ready to fight anybody. Things can go fast in this sport though so we’ll see what happens over the next six months. I know that if I get another shot at Anderson it will be more of the same only this time I will beat him.”

While I don't think "he had him where he wanted him" it did seem pretty clear that neither man had mentally dominated the other. I still would like to see the rematch because I think it does need to play out.

Dont let that head of yours get to big Mr. Cote get a rematch with silva might lead you to picking teeth up afterwards. A rematch doen the road would be cool though.

I hope Cote gets an immediate rematch or one win for a rematch, sounds fair to me, it would be stupid to have him win 3-4 fights before he challenges Silva again.

I would definatly like to see him get another title shot after beating 1-2 contenders. I hate it when fights end that way and Cote proved he had the chin to hang with silva.

Not saying he would of won, but he did take Good shots from Silva and was still coming forward. He couldve caught silva, but we'll never know.

Make him fight top guys when he gets back, if he beats them, give him his second shot.

He had me thinking that he could be a threat to Silva, so I hope he gets well soon and gets his rematch. My money is on Silva though.

He will definitly need one HUGE win, or two decent ones. Although even with that I dont know if the rematch will happen. I think Dana White would do anything to prevent that from happening again.

You've got to him some credit for being so incredibly tough! Good job by Cote and his camp to keep his chin up high.
