Penalty

I think holding shorts, grabbing the fence, or anything else that can cost a fighter a point should also cost them 20% of their purse if they are penalized.

Smart that he didnt take points away since he would have had to seperate them and Wiman might have gone out or tapped.

I agree with the purse deduction though. Nothing motivates people more not to do something then hurting their money.

Should have nothing to do with their purse. A simple point deduction is fair for those offenses.

When it comes down to hitting an opponent when unnecessary, holding a submission after someone has tapped, or not making weight should lead to purse violations.

I totally agree.
Yellow card and cut the purse. That would get the fighter's attention.
I normally don't mind Wiman, but you can't have fighters totally ignoring a referee warning during a fight, as we saw in this one.
I think that we have been seeing more fence grabs, and more shorts grabs in the last couple of events than ever before.

If something is going to be defined as against the rules, then it needs to be enforced. Otherwise, why bother making it a rule?

That said, I think that this was great free event.

Totally bullshit that he kept grabbing onto the shorts after like the 5th time he was told not to.

Agreed. He didn't use an illegal strike that might potentially injure someone. He did the equivalent of spitting out your mouthpiece, grabbing the fence, holding your opponents gloves...

These are all technicalities. If he is willing to lose a point to grab those shorts, all the power to him.

Now, had he poked him in the eye or something, it would be a different story.

Cutting a purse should only happen after the 2nd offense, considering how much these guys make in the first place.

I don't think you should get $1000+ cut from your purse for something like a short grab. Although I do believe a warning, or point deduction should be given.
