What level would that be, good kicks and average hands? The way you talk you would think Alves is the best Striker at 170, which he isn't.

i'd disagree...hell even a motivated hungry loiseau isn't as good as alves and he was a soulless man in that fight and everybody knows it...he didn't do anything until the third round when he was actually winning

and MLS, who is a better overall striker than Alves at 170? when you combine his technique and power, i don't think anyone is....technically, i'd say maybe paul taylor is, but the dude throws pillows...and marcus only has dangerous hands...where alves has finished fights w/ kicks, punches, knee's, etc.

and if alves has "good kicks" i really don't know who would have "great kicks"...i mean, he's by far the best kicker at 170....and his hands have proven dangerous in a number of fights...take away the kicks of alves and he still won the standup with his hands alone in the kos fight

He's got you there Paul Daley is a better striker then Thiago no question.

Thiago is a very good striker but he's not at some crazy level no one can reach.

He hasn't exactly kicked the crap out of a striker.

In fact his fight with Lytle was pretty close till it got stopped due to a cut Thiago was winning but not by much.

So 170 is only in the UFC because I said you make it sound like Alves is the best striker at 170, didn't say the UFC.

You did ask who was better at 170 not who was better in the UFC.

I mean the UFC HW division doesn't have any good strikers so if someone said Kongo had the best stand up at HW I would lol and correct them.

edit - nvm MLS beat me to it.

but for purposes in this thread, made apparent by being in the UFC section, alves is the best striker at 170...i honestly wasn't even thinking about anyone outside of the ufc....

i've only seen a few of daley's fights so i'd have to take a look for myself

edit: well then he has the best striking at ww in the ufc...lets clear that up, since that's all that really matters

Mike Swick doesn't deserve to fight Alves. Thiago deserves a title shot before this fight should happen.

Also Thiago's hands aren't that great, he's just got sweet knees and kicks.

It's easy to be the best when their isn't much competition. If you want to look at how good his skills are you have to look at other fighters outside of the UFC.

Let me help you out with Daley, I think he has better kicks, punches, knees, clinch, pretty much everything in striking. Then you add to that he trains his striking with Badr Hari, Joeri Mes, Melvin Manhoef, Bjorn Bregy, Belani Rashed and more guys like that.
