I put no for 2 reasons. First women need to fight by the exact same rules as the guys, that means 5 minute rounds.
Excellent point, i see no reason women can't fight 5 minute rounds.

Doesn't stop the UFC from having a HW division. Ba da bump!

I want to see Carano vs Cyborg, but thats all.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.

Exactly! I think the 3 minute rounds are actually a hinderance to the women and the legitimacy of woman's MMA. "Oh because you're women we will give you shorter rounds". Screw that!

I would like to see woman MMA, I just don't think the time is right yet.
well, women play less sets in tennis then men...it doesnt seem to bother anyone.and i dont think the time difference makes it less competitive.

the thing is..the talent isnt going to pop out of nowhere.why would a woman bother training hard when they have nowhere to fight and make decent money.its abit of a catch 22.

This should help you understand why women fight 3 minute rounds.

Ok, good article and he is a doctor, and i am not, but...

When he says that women have limited sports-specific endurance, that may be true, but if women can run the same Ironman triathlon course as the men, i think they can fight the same length of round in an MMA match.

I compare that to Women's soccer or hockey, that's like saying women can only play 30 minute halves, or 15 minute periods, most women i know would take that as an insult and a challenge.

Women do Ironman much slower than thier male counterparts.

Sure women could do 5 min rounds, but would they gas out more? That doctor seems to think so.

My understanding is that a significant portion of female MMA fighters work a day job in addition to their training. Hopefully this will enable them to bide their time until women's MMA becomes higher profile and draws more potential fighters in.
