People - STOP THE ANDERSON SILVA WORSHIP

In my last thread, I dared mention that Patrick Cote might put up a fight against Silva and everyone right away (except for 1 guy) reacts with outrage. I've said things like this before about guys like Mike Swick and Nate Marquardt. What gives? Anderson is a great fighter and I'd pick him over anyone right now but as soon as you even say "wow, Cote was aggressive .. wonder how he might take that aggression out on Silva" posters react like you've just insulted Jesus Christ almighty, or that you're a newbie, ignorant and don't know what the hell is going on. Like I said, guys with big hearts, aggression, never say die attitude underdogs have made Vegas millions of dollars because everyone picked "the sure thing". It's like everyone wants to tell all the other fighters to just lay down their arms, resistance is futile .. If Evander Holyfield believed that going into his fight with Tyson, he never would have knocked out this unbeatable Iron Mike. Hope you enjoyed my rant ...lol ... don't take it too seriously ... although I do mean what I say!!!

Like I said, didn't mean to sound like I was outraged or anything. Just stating that people in general tend to praise Cote too much, that's just my opinion though. You could be right, and I understand what you mean some people did sound a little overboard in that thread but I really honestly don't see Cote standing the slightest chance. If Ace couldn't do it, and so many others...why would anyone give Cote a chance? It just seems outrageous to people at first because almost everyone agrees that it is very unlikely.

yeah i just see rich beating the hell out of cote, so it just makes sense that anderson what crush him as well. i like cote, he and i have similar fighting skills. but i know right now i dont match up well with anderson, you gotta have a serious game plan for a guy like that. you cant just slug it out with him. thats what rich thought he was going to do. its not that anderson is the best fighter ever. he is just better than pretty much all the guys in that division right now. as much as i want to see cote get the shot, i think it will be lutter that wins.

I get you, but just because Ace couldn't do it doesn't mean the next guy can't ... I mean Jorge Rivera even did better than Franklin ... I think fighters will start understanding Silva's style more and how to neutralize a lot of his tools. He's a very talented fighter so it'll be difficult but I wouldn't so vehemently dismiss everyone's chances to the point that it's been done on this forum

F-you buddy , Anderson Silva has been my boy way before he entered the UFC octogon. I banked off the Franklin fight because I have seen every recorded fight he's done and knew what he is capable of. You can even minus a loss of his record for his DQ kick to Okami, in my book he won that fight. I like Cote, but he doesn't have the experience or skills to contend with Silva.

Silva's standup is lightyears ahead of Cote's though. Cote likes to stand and trade, and Silva would devour him.

Whoever win's the TUF MW contest is in for a BIG ass kicking. Silva is way better than them, im sorry you can't see that but when Silva fights the winner, im positive he makes short work of whomever it is.

If by "worshipping Anderson Silva" you mean, sticking up for the best middleweight in the country then yeah, give me the badge of honor.

I'm not sure if I'm one of the ones that acted in "rage", I didn't think I was. But your thread was "Cote is a threat for Silva"...and that was a bit dumbfounded. Aside from Rich Franklin...Silva has no threat in the middleweight division, period, if that's not as close to a fact then an opinion I dont know what is.

I think even as the champ people are STILL underrating Silva, thinking that this subpar UFC fighters can just face him and give him a challenge. Now I'm not saying every fight he has he's going to KO them in the first 3 minutes, but regardless the dude wont lose for a long..long time.

As far as Cote goes, hey I like the guy, he's one of my favorites on the show, but just because he's on the show doesnt mean I have to make piss poor excuses for him as to why he stands as a threat to Anderson Silva, he doesnt. Have you seen his striking? It's very sloppy, if striking is Cotes strengths then Anderson is going to pick him apart. He's a world class striker and world class ground specialist, any aspect of MMA Silva completely overmatches him.

It's not called "worshipping", it's called being a realist. Cote doesnt stand a shot against Silva, as much as people want him too or not. I think one of the reasons they want to think he has a shot is so they dont feel cheated...by rooting for the guy on the show then having to see him get dismantled by Silva.

AND anyway, we dont even know if Cote is going to face Silva, I personally think Lutter is going to win the fight, and if LUTTER beats Cote, do you honestly think Cote would stand a shot against Silva? Who is just as good as Lutter on the ground ,LIGHT YEARS ahead of him in striking.

Reality is this, Cote has the heart and determination, and is a decent striker...but Anderson Silva is a world class MMA fighter, and is NOT the fighter to take ANYONE lightly. Hence, Cote having nothing to go on but "being the underdog" if he does face Silva.

Cote = Aggressive Free Thrower
Silva = Pin Point Accurate, Heavy Hand, World Class Striker

Cote = No submission skills, below average ground and pound
Silva = Ground Specialist with jiu-jitsu black belt

Reckless Striker < World Class Striker
Below Average Ground Game < World Class Ground Game

And that my friend, is the "cold hard facts".

Nate Marquardt is a name mentioned in this thread that I truly believe could be a good test for Anderson Silva. Although I've never seen any of Silva's fight outside of the UFC, I know the guys specialty is his Thai striking, and I think Marquardt would do a good job of avoiding that by working his takedowns and controlling him on the ground, and most likely submitting him. I've read that Silva's losses have come by submission, and Marquardt being a seven time king of Pancrase and a skilled submission fighter, you have to wonder when Marquardt is going to work his way toward a title shot and possibly pull out a huge upset on Silva.
