Definitely have to disagree. Brock did something pretty incredible by defeating Randy to become the UFC champion, but I don't think he made it to that point in a totally credible fashion. The only fighter he beat in the UFC before the title shot was Heath Herring. I wouldn't consider him in contention for fighter of the year.

Fighter of the year should probably go to Alves for the same reasons many have already posted.

Fight of the year is tough for me but I would probably have to say...GSP and Fitch because I'm really drawing a blank here and that's what everyone else said.

Card of the year might actually go to Fight for the Troops. Not a PPV card, not numbered, and featuring just a few big-name fighters, but it's hard to deny the fights were very exciting and it was all for a great cause.

Worst fight would be Kalib Starnes vs. Nate Quarry.

Fighter of the year: don't know who to pick between GSP and Lesnar. If Rashad wins at 92 I'll definitely go for him though.

FOTY: GSP/Fitch, I just wish the fight would be less one sided. As a big GSP fan I can't complain about that too much though lol. Griffin/Sherk was really sweet for such an under-hyped fight.

Worst fighter OTY: hard to call but I'll pick who IMO was the biggest upset of 08. Chuck maybe?

Worst fight OTY: hard to call too. I'm going to say HIll/Hartt only based on how horribly the fight ended. Among the main events, Silva/Cote sucked too IMO: 3 "weird" rounds + injury to end the fight

EDIT: UFC card OTY, UFC 91 but I'd wait for UFC 92 to confirm or not.

Kenny Florian..he has beaten 10 top guys in 2008 just like alves. maybe not the names, but top 10 contenders at the time.(arguable)

UFC Fight card of the year?

UFC 92..mir vs. nog..rampage vs silva 3..forrest vs. evans? its gotta be good. i hope i'm not wrong.

Fight of the year?

Evans vs. Liddell ..just for the fact that NOBODY saw that happening

Worst fighter of the year?

Brandon Vera...everybody had high hopes for this guy and he let us all down.

Worst fight of the year?
Brandon Vera vs. Reese Andy

I'm a very surprised that GSP/Fitch is getting a lot of votes for fight of the year. It was a very dominate performance by Gsp with no finish, and very little threat from Fitch.

Because it was also 5 rounds of pure beat up and Fitch never seemed to be giving up. Fitch never giving up was already enough of a threat for GSP, he was probably thinking "WTF, this dude can't be human!". lol

Well maybe GSP should have giving Fitch five knees to the body in a row, then the ref would've stopped the fight.

Seriously though, Fitch never gave up but he didn't do much.

Fighter of the year? Brock Lesnar, he has injected new life into the HW division and started his career taking some VERY tough fights and succeeding beyond what most people have expected. He's wearing the belt in less than a year, all accomplished in this year.

UFC Fight card of the year? UFC 92, Forrest/Rashad for the LHW belt, Nog/Mir for the HW belt, Wandy/Rampage III, what more could you possibly ask for in a PPV?

Fight of the year? Chuck/Wandy, it was a LONG time coming and they didn't disappoint in the least.

Worst fighter of the year? Kaleb Starnes, do I really need to explain?

Worst fight of the year? Marquardt/Leites, a barnburner that got totally ruined by fouls and deductions and left more questions than it answered.

Worst fight of the year was a tough one, there were many candidates but ultimately I sided with the fight that I thought had the most unintuitive result based on the action in the octagon. Alves/Hughes was a close second, Hughes agrees to fight an overweight Alves and earns himself a severe knee injury for his trouble. Sad. I didn't bother listing the Starnes fight because I thought it went without saying, that's just a given for the top spot. Let's not pick the low hanging fruit...

If GSP ever was in a situation where he could do that and get the finish, he most probably would have gone for it as he finished Serra in this exact same way, just a few month earlier. I guess GSP's never been in that situation (or maybe he made a mistake), and Fitch is no Serra.

Agreed, but people don't give Fitch credit for having done something, they give him credit for -getting btfo -for 25 long minutes
-but still not getting finished. That only was sweet to watch IMO. If Fitch had actually done something, GSP/Fitch wouldn't just be FOTY material but IMO would be "one of the best fights in the UFC history material". That's pure speculation but possible IMO, only by considering how much such an uncompetitive fight can be FOTY material.
