Im curious how he thinks he could beat guys like Kos, Fitch, and GSP. There is no way he is taking them down. They would just pound him into a pulp standing.

Shields is a great grappler, but not a great mixed martial artist... yet, anyway. His striking is embarrassingly bad, and his wrestling is subpar compared to the guys in the UFC WW division. I bet you anything that he wouldn't be able to get guys like Fitch, Swick, Koscheck, St. Pierre, Penn, or Alves to the mat. They'd beat the crap out of him standing the whole fight.

He is a good black belt in bjj but he is a bad striker, a subpar wrestler, and from what I saw in his last fight his conditioning is not so great either. He is also not very physically imposing (he isn strong) so if he fought one of those good strong wrestlers he is talking about he would get worked. I think in the UFC he is a middle of the pack guy that would never fight for the title in todays division. He should fight guys like Lytle, Marcus Davis, Paul Taylor and make his money. He wont be a UFC title contender.

He mixed his game up, no point in risk getting beat a second time when you know you are stronger on the ground. If you honestly believe Serra is a better striker than GSP then we'll have to agree to disagree.

From what I have seen Shields does not have the power that Serra possess. I think most people knew that Serra had power, it was just that no one expected him to contact with that

aaaand Andy Wang wants to be the best striker ever...

Kalib Starnes would like to be remembered as an immovable object...

and Travis Lutter wants to people to believe that -almost- finishing an opponent is the same thing as -actually- finishing someone.

Just because Jake wants it, doesn't mean it's going to happen. heh.

Jake's a solid fighter, but the guy is severely overrated. He'd never beat guys like GSP, and would only be a solid guy in a division full of great fighters. Fitch, Alves and Yoshida would eat his lunch. Just because Yoshiyuki got KO'ed doesn't mean he totally sucks (Dude is seriously good). Dude is an excellent grappler himself, and would throw Jake's ass to the mat several times.

There's a huge difference between GSP and Nick Thompson.

lol@ Jake for aiming high but he'd get destroyed by the top 5 welterweights in the UFC. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Karo, Mclovin or Barncat though..

I personally think Davis would destroy Shields in striking, but to be honest I probably rank Davis a little higher than I should.

He would definitely whomp Shields standing, but Jake would get him down and sub him.
