Injury not serious, Bader plans early return

Quote:
Following his ascension to the top of The Ultimate Fighter heap when he defeated Vinny Magalhaes at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale, Ryan "Darth" Bader received a medical suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The suspension follows a post-fight examination of his right hand, the same right hand that dropped Magalhaes to the canvas and put Bader on top of the world.

His medical suspension runs through June 9, 2009, unless his right hand is x-rayed and cleared by a doctor.

"I haven't been to the doctor yet, but it's feeling better already," Bader told MMAWeekly Radio recently. "When I got into the locker room, taking the gloves off, I think it's maybe a soft tissue something. I really don't feel I broke anything."

He obviously doesn't seem too concerned with seriousness of the injury. "I think it's just a little tear or something. I kind of did the whole thing with a doctor that was in town and he was like, 'I don't think it was broken,' a doctor that was at or gym. So, I'm pretty confident that I can get cleared whenever I want to."

That's good news both for Bader, who would surely like to start capitalizing on the six-figure contract that came along with winning The Ultimate Fighter, and for the UFC, who would surely like to get him back in the Octagon and take advantage of his newfound recognition from the popular reality series.

Damn didn't even know he hurt himself. Anyways it always takes the UFC a while before anyone that won TUF fights. Wonder who his first fight will be against?

i agree it always takes TUF fighters a long time to fight again......I think the UFC if they really wanna capitalize on Bader should market him aggressively and schedule a fight against a mid level 205'er.......this way he immediatly makes an impact....

I like the way you think coldcall. Well hopefully it's just a tear or something like that and Bader can get back in the cage way before that June 9th of 2009 date.

I would like to see fight Houston Alexander... I think that's a big enough name that Bader should be able to take down and tool to a 1st or early 2nd round gnp TKO.

Yea. I really think this dude has some serious potential, and I don't doubt that he could bypass some of the lower-class LH's. I'm excited for this guy.

I'm thinking James Irvin if he is still around and/or done with his suspension or whatever happened with that.

Isn't that kind of dangerous for his second UFC fight??

He might not be the best idea. James Irvin is a good wrestler himself so that could potentially be an upset in the making, even though I'd pick Ryan Bader to win.

They should give him an easy fight at first. It's like a welcoming to the UFC. After that, give him a good challenge. It sounds reasonable enough.
