Silva vs leites confirmed for UFC 97 in Montreal
- SILVA VS LEITES SET FOR UFC 97 IN MONTREAL
Tuesday, December 23, 2008 - by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main event for UFC 97 which is currently slated to take place in Montreal, Canada is set as defending middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, will defend his title against fellow Brazilian, Thales Leites, on April 18th.
Blah, not so interested in this one, you would think the UFC would be more interested in putting their 'top p4p fighter in the world' in more marquee matchups at this point, whats a win over leites going to do for his legacy...

Since it's Montreal, who knows, GSP could main event it if he beats BJ, against Alves. If he loses to BJ, he could co main event it along side Silva/Leites.

This is a interesting match up that IMO is stupid. Leites is a no one with fans who hasn't really earned a shot.
However if Leites can get him down Anderson could have some trouble since I think a guy with strong top control will give him hell.

This would suddenly turn from not so interesting, to VERY VERY interesting, if Leites could get Silva down while avoiding punishment from Anderson.

A lot actually, because if Anderson beats Thales, he also beats Royce Gracie's consecutive wins record in the UFC.

Yeah, but what does that record really mean when it is manufactured? (i.e. by setting up uninteresting fights with fighters who shouldn't even be in contention?)
