Dana Leaves Door Open For Arlovski Return.

I caught this on Five Ounces Of Pain while on my lunch break.

What do you guys think?

The UFC has dominated the MMA world for the past decade. During that time period, only one person has gone to another organization that they really wanted to keep.

“In nine years, there’s only one fighter that I’ve lost that I didn’t want to lose,” said UFC President Dana White. “That was (Andrei) Arlovski, and it still bothers me.”

White tried very hard to keep Arlovski in the UFC.

“I jumped on a plane and flew to Chicago with Lorenzo (Fertitta) and kissed his butt to try to make him not leave,” said White.

Money was not the main issue with the former heavyweight champion. Arlovski wanted to expand into other entertainment areas.

“He wanted to box on HBO. He had a lot of different things that he wanted to do that I couldn’t let him do.”

After becoming a free agent, Arlovski signed with Affliction Entertainment. He defeated both Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson since signing on. Now, Arlovski is set to face one of the top heavyweights in the world in Fedor Emelianenko in the coming weeks.

“That will be a very interesting fight,” said White.

While White admits to having tried to sign Emelianenko to a very large monetary deal in the past, White does not want to proclaim Arlovski’s opponent the top heavyweight in the world.

“I’ll never say that Fedor is the best until he jumps in there and fights the best on a consistent basis.”

Ugh, the only reason you want credit him as the best in the world is because he's not in your promotion, period.

After the Fedor fight, win or lose, I'd love to see Arlovski back in the UFC.

Hey Dana, maybe it's time you rethink your bullshit policies. Why does he need to have these nonsense stipulations in the contracts? Who the hell cares if Fedor does sambo or AA boxes? Dana, you suck.

Seems like the Russian fighters really don't like to be locked into things, which I can totally understand. It sucks for us but I'm sure in time it will work itself out. I haven't seen AA on any HBO boxing shows so possibly he has not had any luck with it. Would be a shame for him, but good for us. I wish him luck in his upcoming fight and really hope he comes back to the UFC where he could have an immediate impact on an increasingly relevant HW division.

I can understand where he's coming from with a business perspective, but even then it only hurts the UFC. I mean, if these guys aren't going to be permitted to do other things because of the UFC contract stipulations, they're going to sign with promotions that do permit them to, even if it means less money.

Affliction scored a coup by signing those three top heavyweights: Arlovski, Fedor and Sylvia. Yeah, I included Sylvia--he is a former UFC champ, who's beaten Arlovski twice.

With those three back within a year and a half or two after Affliction folds, UFC's heavyweight division will be nearly as glorious and exciting as their welterweight and light heavyweight divisions.

Edit: meant to write lightheavyweight rather than light weight.

Don't forget Barnett, probably the most under-appreciated top 10 HW there is.

Corn, If Dana allowed Fedor to exclusively do Sambo and UFC, how many of the other 200 UFC fighters would want to have some sort of exclusiveness in their next or new contract?

You can't favor certain fighters to be out of the "UFC only" policy without having backlash from other fighters as well.

"When I hear athletes call themselves warriors, it does bother me a little bit. When I think of a warrior, I think of the Marines I've led in combat, those Marines that sacrificed so much...no showers, little food, no contact with their family, all for their love for their brother Marine and for their love for their country. That's a warrior, willing to lay his life on the line. I've had Marines that have laid their lives on the line for the man next to him, and for their family and country. That's a warrior. The guy who goes into some athletic contest who has no war experience, in my eyes, really has no right to call himself that. That's a coveted thing to call someone, and that's what I call my Marines. Those are warriors." - Brian Stann
