Rashad Evans explains "nut kissing" gesture

Quote:
“When [Griffin] got off his little flurry on me, and he gave me everything he had, I was like, ‘Oh man. I’ve seen every trick in the book,’” Evans said. “And I knew that there was nothing he could do to really hurt me. I felt all his power, and I was like, ‘Man, I’ve got this. I’ve got this now.’ And I wanted to let him know that [he] can’t hurt me. It’s going to be a long night from here on out.’ It was just a little fun. Me and Forrest were sitting there smiling. I’d hit him with a good shot, and he’d give me a little smile or something. We were just going back and forth. When you’re in the gym or something like that, it’s just some stuff we go on with a little trash-talking and stuff like that. It’s nothing personal. It’s just getting into the fight.”

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and proud nipple-twisting club member Rashad Evans talks about the gesture he made during his fight against Forrest Griffin in the UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008″ main event, blowing a kiss and then grabbing his crotch after absorbing a punch. All in good clean fun, according to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) heavyweight winner from season two of the mixed martial arts reality series on Spike TV. Evans went on to smash Griffin in the third round to capture the 205-pound title.

TBH it made me laugh for some reason. I don't mind showboating as long as it's spontaneous and not too often during the fight (not in each round).

Thoughts?

I just don't like when Rashad does it...I really hate that guy. That explanation is fitting for him. I can't wait to see Machida embarrass this dude.

Rashad is a great fighter, and I loved how he pounded out forrest, people will always found a reason to hate on the guy. but you have to respect how he has improved as a fighter.....I see only rampage beating in his division.

I completely respect him as a fighter, but I see more people then just Rampage beating him.

Nothing wrong with showboating if you can back it up with a solid victory.machida has no reason to showboat because there's hardly enough activity in any of his fights.

As for embarassing rashad i highly doubt it, the only advantage machida will have is that he's waaaaaay more "elusive" than rashad.

Yeah and his judo, BJJ, and Karate black belts.

Rashad would get embarrassed on the ground or feet. Sorry you don't recognize skills. He has a reason to be cocky, he just isn't. That isn't his personality. The only problem Rashad poses is his power and speed. Something that we haven't really seen Machida matched up against. But he is quick.

Oh and I agree that there is nothign wrong with showboating. I just don't like Rashad. For no reason in particular. I just don't like him.

Rashad is also a pretty technical striker too. Not at the level of Machida but he's one of the most technical strikers at LHW IMO.

Rashad wasn't doing it to be nasty or anything. We saw the pre hype videos and Rashad OUTSIDE the ring. He's not an arrogant person at all. He does it to loosen up in a fight and probably throw his opponent off guard. It's actually quite a clever tactic.

Rashad isn't the obnoxious cocky lad people like to make out. He's a decent bloke, just like Forrest is. Also, like Forrest, he's well educated. He sometimes likes to play the cocky gimmick in the octagon. Get over it.

Machida's style IS confusing. But he's yet to be in the cage with a fighter of the intelligence of Rashad. I mean, Tito Ortiz isn't the smartest fighter in the world but he came DEAD close to finishing Machida in their fight. An out of shape BJ Penn posed a lot of problems for Machida as well. Machida isn't the wizard everyone claims him to be. Yes, he's extremely intelligent and patient fighter with some pretty innovative attacks, but he CAN be beat. He has shown that he can get caught and sooner or later somebody will figure him out. Everybody gets figured out sooner or later.
