I have no clue why Aoki called him out knowing full well that fight will never happen. I see it as silly posturing.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.

Someone mentioned this before, but I can see this as giving bj a little motivation to leave the UFC and go to Japan if he beats GSP. He'll have two titles after the GSP fight and nothing left to prove, Thiago Alves and Kenny Florian arent good of enogh reasons for BJ to train hard. He did it before (left the UFC with a title to fight in Japan) and he could do it again...I would love to see it.

Also, Aoki would NEVER come to the UFC. The lighter weights are way more competative in Japan. Also, these guys (aoki, yamamoto, gomi...) are superstars out there. They could never leave their contracts and sponsors to come to the US for a crappy UFC deal where they will be nobodies and tied down like monkeys.

JZ, Uno and Alvarez are pretty damn competitive, but there are dudes like Griffin and Sherk who could give Aoki a good fight, besides Penn. I'd like to see Aoki fight in the UFC at least once. I wish Gomi would just fight in the UFC. After he fights Kitaoka, he should go to the UFC, but who knows. Gomi fights to the level of his competition, and I think he'd get motivated fighting Penn in a rematch, or someone like Sherk.

Kitaoka, Aoki, Gomi....man, so many tough Japanese fighters.

I actually think Aoki would win a decision over Penn. I think that Penn would have a hard time getting Aoki off of him once Shinya attaches himself to him. BJ's BJJ is great, but Shinya's deadly from all positions.

Even though I would still choose BJ I think Sherk would have a chance if he actually went for takedowns.

So how much of an advantave do those tights give Aoki?

I know that they give him a hell of alot of help to maintain guard when both fighters are dry. But when they both sweat I wonder how well they work.

Oh man, EXCELLENT point, Damone.

Seriously, the BJ Penn nuthugger is running rampant recently. So many times people have said Aoki would get creamed by better strikers, and he's attached himself to them like a virus and won. SO many times.

Worst f*cking gameplan EVER. Sherk should have shot in and used his wrestling, not his 6" reach.

Also, you guys have to remember that BJ has run out of the UFC before, so I wouldn't put it past him to do so again once he finishes his contract.

I would literally cream my pants if this fight was announced.

I also think Aoki would either sub BJ or get a decision by the ways that Damone said.

BJ would have a hard time getting Aoki off of him and Aoki has some sick subs from wierd positions.

For me it's one of those fights where BJ matches up better on paper, but Aoki is, as someone stated in a DREAM thread, "an ******* octopus or somethin."

It doesn't seem that anyone's considered Aoki WANTS to come to the UFC, and is calling out BJ to get fans interested in the matchup (and thus earn him a better UFC payday). I say the UFC would love to have Aoki, because he matches up interestingly with a lot of their lightweight fighters. He also has an interesting look -- like clark kent before he becomes superman -- which is marketable (the guy with glasses who beats the crap out of you).

As an aside -- I picked Aoki to take UFC lightweight title this year as my "crazy" prediction in the prediction contest, so I'm completely biased.
