I say BS!!! Wanderlei built his career in PRIDE because he wasn't able to compete in UFC, then he was kiiling japanese mid-fighters and became popular (as Cro Cop) and when it was the time to come back and show what he can do in UFC, he fails again. And if Wanderlei were to stay in Dream, he would continue to be "the best", that's basically the meaning of the thread, not UFC vs PRIDE at all..
So... if guys like Cro Cop and Wanderlei go to Dream they would be known as the best again? Really? Is that why Cro Cop was losing bad against Overeem in Dream? It doesn't matter if they go to another promotion, as a fighter they are both running down the hill.

Also, don't say that it's because Overeem isn't some "mid-teir Japanese fighter", Cro Cop in his prime beat down Barnett, one of the top heavyweights in the world who is, you know, not a mid-teir Japanese fighter. He also put down Coleman and gave Fedor his toughest fight yet(Fedor's words, not mine). Of course, you will probably say Fedor is also in the same place, fighting mid-teir fighters that can't compete in the UFC. Too bad one of the UFC's best heavyweights, a Champion in the UFC, Tim Sylvia, was completely demolished by him.

UFC Champions are also losing speed(Liddell, Hughes). It's because the sport is moving forward and the ability to not only physically fight, but mentally push yourself and have the drive to compete and learn new things at the highest level both start to slack off as you get older and get to the end of your career.

A few examples of "losing drive to compete and learn new things" would be Wanderlei still throwing wide, looping punches and having a complete lack of care for his own face, Liddell throwing hands half way across the cage with his face presented with a sign saying "please hit me in the face".

As for Nog, it's difficult to take a beating in each fight and continue to do that all of your career. He was almost stopped by Herring(Pride fighter), Sylvia(UFC fighter), but came out on top in both of them. Nog isn't done, he just had a bad night and got finished.

Shogun... well, can't say anything on it because 1. Like it or not, he was injured, his knee was bad, that means bad cardio. He wasn't in top form, he wasn't the Shogun everyone knows, even rampage said that the Shogun who fought Forrest was not the one he fought in PRIDE. We'll see more on this in a few weeks.

In the end, ALL fighters that used to be at the top are slowing down, that's why guys like Brock, Mir, Machida, Rashad, Forrest, etc, are all top dogs right now.. where Liddell, Hughes, Wanderlei, Cro Cop, etc, are starting to fall off. Guys like Rampage, Anderson, Fedor(all were PRIDE fighters at one point), who are still doing very well, it's because they they have not let the sport pass them by, they are still improving and still fighting at their best.

Since the history of combat sports, fighters get old and fall off, new fighters come in and take over. Simple.
