Rumors that Chuck Liddell could square off against Anderson Silva surfaced early last month and tailed off after Liddell himself shot them down in a post UFC 92 interview.
Today, UFC President Dana White brought the rumor back to life, stating that the match up could still happen if Liddell can win his next fight.
"If Chuck can win in his next fight, then we could see that fight," White told Fighter's Only. "Liddell has been open to fighting Anderson, so maybe that can be a fight we can make."
White also commented on recent remarks made by Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic indicating a desire to come back to the UFC.
"We will welcome him with open arms," said White. "He is a guy that I respect, and when he left, there was really no bad blood. He needed to clear some things up, so if he wants to come back, he is welcome."
I want to be pleased about the possible return of Cro Cop but really it just makes me sad that I will get to see him not be not very good rather than just read about it on the interwebz.
Chuck v Anderson isn't really a fight hat interests me that much and unless chucky wins his next fight convincingly against solid opposdition then I am not sure what it would say about anderson's place in LHW if he won.
Unless he uses his much talked about but rarely seen wreslting skills to take anderson down. What he would when he got there is another matter mind you.
im glad to hear theres a possibility that cro cop could return to the UFC, but as for chuck V silva i dont really care much for this fight i wouldent really be intrested in seeing chuck get KO'd ....again
So is anyone else thinking they may be trying to get AS to move to LHW and vacate the MW belt? Possibly for the winner of the next TUF with Bisping vs franklin/henderson
IMO chuck has faced guys that hit harder than Anderson. A young vitor belfort, rampage, couture, wandy. But anderson quickness might be trouple for chuck's hands down style
Agreed. The quick line drive punches that Anderson can deliver would damage Chuck. I think Anderson has the best style to beat a healthy and motivated Chuck that doesn't make mistakes.
For the "mega-fight" appeal I know why Dana is so pumped to make the Silva-Liddell fight happen. Even though I do give Chuck a decent chance in the match-up a loss especially if it was another devastating KO would almost cement Chuck's retirement. Then again if Chuck pulls off the win- I could honestly see Dana putting Chuck right back in the mix for the LHW title(fair or unfair) to give Liddell one more chance at his belt before it's all over.
Cro Cop back- even as a huge CC fan I just hope he could return with the same fire and confidence he once had which I'm not sure of. I'd really like to see CC-Brock or if it's the one fight and then retire I'd be down to see CC-Kongo rematch and have CC walk out knee Kongo in the balls 4 times in a row get DQed but get revenge.
Please Cro Cop, train like a beast again and come back as your old self. Then fight Kongo and knee him in the balls for payback as Walker suggested. That would be a devastating hit with Cro Cop's legendary legs.
i dont think Liddel deserves a title shot after his recent fights, even if he win his upcoming fight.
Cro Cop.. i hope he will return to his prime, but i dont think it will happen im afraid....realy miss the good ol Cro
You guys are all wrong. I said it once and I'll say it again. Chuck Liddell can beat Anderson Silva. I predict Chuck catches him in the second and knocks him the f$ck out!
Chuck vs Anderson is a great fight for Chuck. If he's going to get beat up it might as well be the best. And if he wins, then that's the best way he can go out in his fighting career.
chuck totally could beat silva with a good game plan. Yes it is unlikely but i think he has a somewhat decent chance. Chuck would either win by KO or silva would decision him. Then chuck can go on to win the LHW belt then move up to heavyweight and win that belt, then leave the UFC and beat fedor. Then he can retire a legend.
I would actually be upset if Chuck/Silva happened and Liddell SOMEHOW KO'd Silva. After Chuck has been so lackluster lately, to KO Silva would really take a lot of Silva's luster away imo.
There are just so many fights that make more sense to me, for both guys, than that one.
