Jon Jones New England Fighter of the Year, J Lau & KenFlo Get Recognizition

I decided to start with Rookie of the year, mostly because this guy could have won just about every award on here. Jon Jones set the local scene on fire. This time last year, he was yet to make his pro debut, and now he’s still undefeated, has a win in the UFC and is fighting Stephan Bonnar on the main card of a UFC PPV. You really can’t have a better Rookie year than he had.

I also want to take a minute to talk about my favorite moment of the year, possibly our "biggest" moment of the year. Joe Lauzon and Kenny Florian shared a billboard in Times Square advertising their UFC Fight Night 13 Main Event fight. Take a minute to think about that. Two guys we watched from their very first amateur fight, and two guys we spent years talking about on the internet...saying "you better watch this guy, he'll be in the UFC someday." Not only did two of our favorite local fighters make it to the UFC, they were fighting each other in the main event with the winner taking a step closer to a title shot. It was truly amazing to see those two on a billboard together.

I doubt many of you follow the local MMA scene in New England but right now it's huge. There's guys coming out of New England and making it in the big shows all the time now. Joe Lauzon, Kenny Florian, Alex Karalexis, Jon Jones, Dan Lauzon all are fighting in big shows like the UFC and Affliction. New England is producing some of the best fighters right now. Look for the other guys in the article to be getting some national exposure soon too.

Also for the New Jersey guys that website where the article is from is expanding and is going to be covering the local New Jersey scene soon too. They try to go to as many shows and always have writeups and results as well as news about new MMA schools opening and when seminars in the area are happening. They cover grappling too and post info about tourneys in the area.

Of course New England is producing some of the best fighters out there. I'm from here.

Seriously, though. It's nice to see guys from New England making it big in this sport.

2. Glover Teixeira

Yea, theres a lot of talent in England and Jersey as well. I can't speak for England, but here in Jersey theres a buzz for MMA, and it helps that NJ allows sanctioned fights unlike New York who could be making loads of money right now.

As for Jon Jones and Kenflo, what more can you say. Jon Jones is going to be big in the UFC, the guy is super talented. And we all know about Kenflo, very talented and is going to be a champion very soon.

Jones had a spectacular year. The guy just came onto the scene guns blazing. I am so back and forth on the Jones/Bonnar fight.

Bonnar has the experience and more tools but is coming off a suspension so ring rust could be a factor. Jones has tons of momentum heading into this fight. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Also, its about time an area other than Albuquerque produced some great fighters

Gonzaga vs dos Santos - UFC on VS
Vera vs Jones - UFC on VS
Bibs vs Hansen - Dream 13
GSP vs Hardy - UFC 112
Gomi vs Florian - UFN 21
Nelson vs Struve - UFN 21

Good stuff and its nice to hear. I really hope Dan Lauzon beats the shit out of Horedeski. I still have no idea who to pick in the Jones/Bonnar fight. I was thinking Bonnar by submission, but now im leaning towards Jones.
