Sherk Possible For Roger Huerta's Send-Off

Quote:
MMAInsider has learned from several sources close to former UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk that a meeting with fellow Minnesotan Roger Huerta is possible for UFC 97 in Montreal, Canada.

Huerta recently elected not to sign a contract extension with the UFC, deciding instead to focus on recent opportunities in acting and modeling. He has reportedly signed a three-film development deal with Lions Gate Films, and is working on a book about his life.

A meeting with Sherk would be the last fight on Huerta's current contract.

In a recent interview with MMAWeekly.com, the soon-to-be-thespian said he'd be open to a fight up north.

"Actually, I would kind of like to fight in April, the Montreal card, cause a lot of the Canadian guys want me to fight on that card," he said. "So it'd be kind of cool if I did that. In the meantime, I'm doing other things."

Sherk is currently in training at Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts. In his last appearance, he outpointed up-and-comer Tyson Griffin at UFC 90, showcasing an improved stand-up game. The former champ has repeatedly stated he only wants to fight contenders and names, and a bout with Huerta appears to fit the latter half of that bill.

"I want to push myself and challenge myself," he said. "I've got 41 professional fights. I feel like I've accomplished everything in this industry a guy could ever dream of accomplishing, and now, at this point in my career, I only want to fight the best guys. That's all I'm interested in. I'm not here to collect paydays. I just want to test myself and finish my career knowing that I fought the best of the best and beat them."
could be a great fight for sure

Huerta would be 100% outclassed in this fight. I like Roger a lot but Sherk is a better grappler, wrestler, and striker.

It's really not even close.

Sherk will take Roger down at will and beat him up a bit for a UD.

i see what ufc are doing here. this is huerta's last fight with the company so they're trying to send him off on a loss. makes sense; there'd be no pay off for the ufc if he beats someone and leaves. its kinda the same thing they did with tito.

sherk should dominate this with his wrestling. lately though sherk has looked more like a striker. huerta would be tough for sherk to deal with in the standup having the better reach advantage, but i'd still go with sherk.

I really don't even care....Huerta will be gone after this or any other fight anyway because he wants to model and do movies. Great timing Huerta. Most athletes wait until after their prime to pursue other things but not you. You decide to hop right into some acting and modeling during crucial develepmental years for a fighter. It really is dissapointing to see Huerta throw away the chance he has at fighting for an acting career that we all know will be terrible. A young exciting lightweight with tons of potential just decides to leave. But 'he'll be back'. Huerta, do you really think you will be able to do any damage after taking like a 3 year break. That's three years of so much development that it's not even funny. Time you could have spent sharpening your jiu jitsu and tdd.

I just hope he realizes he needs to fight and quit doing movies soon so he doesn't waste too much time.

Kamikaze is now 5-0. Watch his most recent fight here.

they may have done that if they gave him a can, but this is sherk, and he's a big name at lw.
