Besides, I would feel real bad about it if Carlos Newton came back and whooped his ass in their rematch, but that didn't happen. Newton was served up a beating for 20 straight minutes in the rematch, so I can't call it a fluke.

good point on the street fight comments. repped

I believe Matt has actually already said that he in fact was out. I don't remember where I heard him say it though. I don't think he's one to lie about it, being a big Christian and all, and it was pretty obvious his legs gave out no question about it and he wouldn't have done that unless he was going out. Nobody slams people by letting their legs go limp that is a dead giveaway right there. And it wasn't a coincidence that along with his legs mysteriously giving out, he stays on the ground for a second or so afterwards, not moving, completely limp. Then if it's still not obvious to you he finally wakes up and looks around in a blatantly obvious confused face. If all these things that define unconsciousness happened purely by coincidence, then I guess there is a God and he was betting on Matt Hughes.

That lost look on his face could have been due to the fact he didn't realize Newton was unconscious, and why the fight was being stopped.

I haven't seen the fight in some time though.
thats what i thought too, he was looking at the ref like "what" why are you stopping me, i dont think he realized newton was out.

I don't think this was the case, Matt would have jumped all over Newton until the ref pulled him off if this was what was going on, but IMO Matt was out and only came to his senses a few seconds after Newton dropped.

I just dont think if he was asleep he could have put that much force behind his slam
If you take a body mass close to 350lbs and hold it 5 feet 6 inches above a flat surface and just let it drop on its own, I can guarantee that it is going to fall with quite a bit of force. Couple that with the fact that the back of Newton's head contacts the mat first, and it's not going to take a lot of momentum aside from the natural acceleration of gravity to put him out.

But I do agree, I don't think he wasn't completely out when he started the slam. However, if you consider he didn't know what happened until Big John told him he won, and that he didn't continue assaulting Newton after the slam, you end up with a lot of proof that he was out by the time it was finished.

Another good point, and TKO's have been called for less.
