The Future of the UFC

I just want to hear about some opinions about the future of the UFC and what they have to do to keep the fans happy. Recently I have not been enjoying the pay per view events nearly as much as in the past. I usually am only interested in the top 2 or maybe 3 fights. I know that Pride usually offers many more fights, and bigger named fights on a regular basis. I really want to see UFC broaden their rosters and start gaining some international talent instead of just basing most of the talent out of North America. I would love to see a large amount of fighters out of Europe come over and fight in the UFC. We have to start raising the bar alittle higher in the UFC to keep things fresh, and stop with the Trilogy matches!

What are your guys opinions?

White has said they are pushing to go global with shows being planned for the UK in about a year. It's a wise business decision considering Pride's presence in the U.S. now though the "Westernized" version of Pride will be watered down compared to the original in the far east.

The UFC needs to increase the pay-outs for the undercards and re-structure the difference in pay-outs: Example

1) In some cases the loser gets near as much as the winner in a fight.
2) Some of the undercards get paid ridiculously lower than the main eventers.
3) They need to continue throwing the fans a bone or two, like Ortiz-Shamrock 3 where they put it on Spike TV for free.

If you increase and re-structure the payouts and throw the fans a bone once in a while the UFC with accomplish three things.

1) Motivate the current roster of fighters to step it up a bit.
2) Attract other fighters from other organizations.
3) Attract a new fan base.

Let's face people, it's all about the Benjamin's $$$$

it all depends, i mean their main audience is uneducated ********, so they could just give them subpar fights and typcial KO fests and they'd keep them happy... but if PRIDE gets their act together, UFC will have to up its game.

although, if enough educated fans complain, UFC will change. as they have already shown interest in growth, by bringing in Anderson, and now maybe Aleks!

it all depends. are they going for WWE type superiority where quality doesn't matter, only profit, or are they going for a supreme MMA event?

With all the excellent talent out there it should not be a problem finding a bunch of new talent for the UFC that doesnt come from a reality show. I know a lot of the fighters on the show have a decent backround in MMA, but sometimes that just doesnt cut it. It would be very interesting if MMA took a turn like boxing (not as crappy and fixed) but where each fighter is fighting for their own country and pride. So we see all the fights we want to see, and the best of the best compete. You would just have to have maybe a couple levels of belts. Maybe 2 belts per weight class or something haha

White has a good set up bring talent in through TUF show. I figure this way he doesn't have to pay a fighter say like Jackson, or Shogun the kind of money they'd command.

To increase the fan base and educate the public on this great sport more live cards need to be shown on TV, not PPV. I think that'd be a huge step in a positive direction. What say ye?

Yea but Id rather seen a broader amount of talent involved rather than the same people fighting over and over and over again. I agree if the fights are good...but come on...shamrock - ortiz 4 times...pffttt

I love Shamrock, but come on

So if a guy doesn't know all the UFC history and follow every move, he is an uneducated *******? I would venture to say all these so called ******** are what the future of the business rides on. New fans will make it grow, not the ones who have been there from day one.

Obviously Anderson and Aleks are not the fist thing they have done to show an interest in growth. They did come out with TUF and all the shows they put on Spike TV. If it wasn't for all this stuff these ******** like, you would not have near as much to complain about. UFC would not be near as popular and you would not know anything about the guys everyone complains about now.

I think they would need to have fewer PPV's a year and also hold more televised events (free) with the newer unknown's. If they did that though, someone would be complaining not enough PPV's......the TV fights suck....blah blah No matter what they do, someone will find something to whine about.

I agree that they need to do more free shows I would like to see 2 fight nights a month. I would also like to see people go up and down in the wieght classes a little more. Expand UFC to allow us to watch the up and commers. It seams like the UFC is stale.

I think to uber fans of MMA UFC are always going to draw criticism but IMO UFC is still booming and the majority of the audience is excited and happy with the product so I wouldn't expect any changes (although the roster is getting better by the month which is really fast.) If you share the attitude that the majority of fans are uneducated ******** then I think you will always find something to bash UFC about because you will never let yourself be entertained by something the lowly ******** enjoy. I think that is an arrogant attitude but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I know this much.... TUF 19 isn't the answer.

I think a tournament once or twice a year would be cool, some multi fight events... Maybe even have a championship tournament? Champ has to fight #3 contender, #2 and #1 contender fight, winner fights winner... for new belt perhaps?

They've got too many newcomers from TUF shows, these guys aren't all worth watching. I'm sick of Joe Stevenson and Keith Jardine being on more than original UFC fighters. Maybe throw in a TKO only match... no time limit. Fight to the death so to speak. SOMETHING new!

This is UFC. I doubt they want to go to what they were back when they went nowhere. If you haven't noticed, they have given us something new. Look at the UFc just in the last 2 yrs. They keep going. They bring in new talent on TUF shows. It gives the fans a way to get to know who these people are. If it wasn't for guys like Joe and Keith, people would be *****ing because it was the same old fighters and they need new ones. No matter what the UFC does, someone will be whining about it. I say they should keep on doing what they want. If they make the wrong move, they will fix it or go under. So far, they are coming up, not going down. I say for the ignorant posts about the ******* fans, I hope the UFC keeps on appealing to the so called ********. If it wasn't for that, we would not have the UFC to come on here to debate about.

I'm not saying I don't like the TUF idea... I just don't like Joe Stevenson and Keith Jardine getting all these shots because I don't consider them very good fighters. The winners are one thing I guess, but a lot of the guys that didn't win are getting props all over the place. If it keeps going this way, the UFC will have 180 fighters since they are actively using maybe 4-6 per season, not just the two that win, you get me?

I'm not saying go back to UFC 1 and do 3 fights a night... just maybe something to jazz it up. Lots of people are complaining that it's cool to have 1 PPV a month, but not if 10 out of the year aren't any good.

I agree

The winners and runner ups maybe should be able to fight in the UFC. But ive seen Jardine more than Sanchez...and Sanchez won the damn competition...and Jardine lost pretty quick. So its kinda like...the reality show is only for ratings (of course) and the fighters that people relate with fight...even if they suck and always loose. I want good fights...not fan favourites like RASLIN! (Wrestling)

1 PPV per month is fine by me as long as they are worth the money. UFC needs to take some steps towards stacking up fight cards. Usually there is only 1 or 2 i want to see...

Plus...show ALL the undercard fights. WHY NOT?

I agree, they are otentimes more entartaining cuz the guys tend to just slug it out.
Some people say the undercards are what you get as an extra attraction if you pay for it live. I agree in some ways...but we are paying on Pay Per View...the point is the see the same thing...for a lot cheaper in the comfort of our own home. The people in attendance are paying because they are there! Experiencing the live event.

We get free baseball games on TV and they cost money to go see live.
So does that mean we shouldnt see the first 4 innings if we are watching from home?

I think they should show all the fights that happen on that particular night if you pay money to see it. All undercards and main events!
