Clearing up the whole Kurt Angle mess....
I haven't been on for about two weeks and there was a thread about Kurt Angle on a radio show where he was misquoted on this thread. As I listen to the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show almost everyday as I work, I've heard all of Kurt Angle's responses to MMA, Daniel Puder, and Tito Ortiz. Angle is a regular guest every Thursday. He comes on to promote TNA wrestling (weak) but Bubba and his co-hosts often change the subject to MMA.
As far as Puder is concerned, what the first thread said is correct. Puder would get owned. But Angle saying he was on the same level as Tito was never said. He only said that his wrestling was better than Tito's which is not untrue. He said he would need months upon years of training to compete with the top MMA talent in the world and that maybe his chances may have passed him up already as he is getting older and because his well known neck problems. He did say he has been training in MMA, but not often or a part of his normal routine. He's also not claiming to be in the caliber of most UFC or Pride fighters when it comes to MMA but does say he has the skills to win some matches.
He said if he fought tommorrow or in the next year, he would keep his chin down, elbows tight to body with hands above his face, and go for the first available shoot. He then said in his opinion he could get a takedown on a lot if not most of the fighters he would be facing. As to what he would do and how he would fare on the ground where polar opposites in his opinion. He said he would try to just lay and pray the entire match, few body shots, a couple short tight elbows, but mainly just control the body of his opponent, what he does best as a wrestler.
He never said he was on the same level as Tito Ortiz, he said he most likely would lose the match as Tito is more skilled than him. He did say though that in their NCAA wrestling days that he owned Couture, which is not hard to believe. He did say that would be the fight to get him in the UFC, Angle VS Couture, but he would want train for at least 12-18 months on MMA, as he is a pure wrestler and would want to train in ground defense, subs, and striking. He claims his best skills are first, obviously his wrestling, 2nd his cardio, and 3rd he has heavy hands with definite KO power but he admits he throws too wildy which could lead to him being open too often so he would like to hone in a more precise striking game.
The first thread was an obvious set-up to bash Kurt Angle. IMO Couture and most would win if nt own him, but he has very valid points in his arguement and I didn't want people to judge Kurt Angle as a pompous ass with a huge ego before they knew the real facts.
