top five fighters

Let's see. GSP kicked the crap out of hughes. He was KO'd at the end of 1. Silvia is going to be on top of the division for awhile, but its just because they aren't fighting the top guys. They are pimping Vera all over the place, but how's he landing a knee on big Tim. Hughes was a great champ, but he almost lost to Penn Twice. I was there, and he got dominated in round 1 and 2. Trigg almost beat him, and Newton had a choke in deep before getting dropped on his head.
Old school. Very beginning has to be the Shamrock brothers. Or however the hell Frank and Ken are related, but I still don't like Ken. Im happy as hell he had to eat a little shit after the Ortiz trifecta. I also loved Tank Abbott and Vito back in the day, but both have faded over the years. Vito is still young and will come back. I think that should worry Chuck just a little in a stand up war.
New school. Heavyweights have to be Coutoure for winning in two divisions. Liddel is pretty solid too, but as all fighters go he's beatable. I still think he takes it to Ortiz. It will take them dropping Vera down before he has some comp if they don't bump someone else into the division or bring over some Pride guys.
My favorite fighters are BJ Penn at 155 when he drops down. I think he should take on GSP again. GSP held on for dear life when he was on top. Five rounds it be hard to call cause BJ keeps gassing.
Fedor is money. Tops in the game.
Cro Crop has the best kick. Rua is up there with his strikes
Grappling is Norirega as we call him in the west coast, where all brazillians names are misspelled. The big Jap who took it to Vanderli back in the day should definetly be mentioned. Yomiguchi or whatever the hell his name is. Jui Jitsu champ. Randy should be on the list. Best slams are still by Rampage and Hughes.
Best Hands-Chuck and Vitor. Fedor of course. I also am totally digging the transformation of Hollywood Hendersen. He's been a top fighter since the beginning of UFC. He's losses have all come against elite comp.
Fest five round fight ever. Thats easy. Randy the Natural vs Rizzo back in the day.

Remember, when Rickson beat Funaki he was like 42 years old (yeah, I know Randy Couture...) and even if he fought Shamrock or Severn right when they first entered the UFC, he would have been fighting them in his late 30s while they were in their prime. And yeah he fought a lot of chumps in the Vale-Tudos, but that's the fighters he had to face. I do wish he had fought Sakuraba. Anyway I'll shut up about Rickson now. This will all be a moot point a year from now if (correction: when) Fedor still has the belt and has defended successfully against Hunt, CroCop, and Barnett. At that point there will be no doubt that Fedor is the greatest ever. It's just a matter of time... Only a career ending injury or a trip down Belfort lane(going from "Unbeatable Phenom" to "Who the hell is this chump that looks like Vitor?") could prevent that now.

Big time "mea culpa" to Kazushi Sakuraba for not including him on my list. Huge blunder on my part. This is one of the quintessential Pride fighters. Like seeing those kicks to the legs and flying stomps to downed opponents by guys like Wandy and Shogun (and everyone else these days)? Give Saku a thanks for those. He may not have invented those, but he made them popular. He never held a belt in pride, but Kazushi has fought everybody. Sure Wandy handed him his ass on a regular basis, but Wandy is also bigger man, and a legend in his own right. Major props to Saku!

They are just too 1 dimensional fighters and boring to watch.

UFC is becoming stale unless they get some good talent!

Anderson Silva was a good choice...although he made the UFC fighters look like a bunch of chumps (because they are)
and hopefully Fedors bro Aleks comes soon! It will be interesting to see how he fends against the UFC heavyweights...becuase hes not really a top pride competitor...hes actually supposedly only beaten cans...so if he comes and wipes out the HW division...it will again show the low level of competition the UFC has to offer.

NaChOmAmA
Way to protect yourself by claiming that if Alex wins then it proves the UFC sucks and if he loses it's because he sucks. Why do you even watch the UFC since you hate it so much and all of the fighters suck?

Uhh...we need to reclarify the subject of discussion because non-UFC fighters are being mentioned with UFC fighters.

Title reigns, alone, are not enough to merit GOAT recognition. Along with this the prospective fighter's comp level should also be considered while closely examing general performance against each fighter faced during the period of his reign.

I think the P4P moniker is grossly abused in MMA with no consideration given to the various organizations policies on OPEN WEIGHT and TOURNAMENT style events.

To truly be considered a P4P MMA fighter one must go the route of BJ Penn or Kazushi Sakuraba (someone who routinely fought naturally bigger men). These are two of a small number of fighters (MMA WIDE) who are truly worthy of that moniker.

I thought it was a good article until it said that Hughes was the best. Then I closed the webpage so I could say that it was a stupid dumbass article, that pat militech would love (if he knew how to read).

Hughes is/was a good fighter, but in my opinion he's not even in the top ten of all time.

Thread Title Changed

This thread is for the UFC fighters only, not Pride, WFA, IFL, or BoDog. With that said, Coutoure, Miletech, and Gracie are the most likely best candidates for greatest UFC fighter of all time.

Tito Ortiz - Came into the UFC and dominated but what has he done recently, beat Ken Shamrock twice. Shamrock was on his way out of the UFC, so this is nothing special.

Matt Hughes - Dominated the WW division and has constantly beaten fighters that are considered better than him. His in ring performance cannot really be contested. Has great potential to become the greatest UFC fighter of all-time.

Chuck Liddell - Continues to dominate the Light Heavyweight Division and will be the greatest LHW champion in UFC history. He also has the potential to be the greatest UFC fighter of all-time.

The one thing that really keeps these guys from claiming the title of Greatest UFC Fighter of All-Time is what they do outside the octagon. Coutoure, Miletech, and Gracie revolutionized the UFC to what it is now. Whether helping get the organization off the ground or training up and comers to become the best.
