No way the UFC is doing an event without elbows and knees. They'll move it, and there's going to be a riot in Montreal.

No elbows or knees? why not just make it boxing or wrestling, they keep finding ways to take more and more of the mixed out of mixed martial arts. I agree, the UFC shouldnt change their rules for them, I feel bad for the people that live in Quebec, this is a really good card.

well if they enforce the 'gentleman rule' it wouldn't affect silva at all, its actually leites who you should be worried about.

its funny how they didn't know about ufc 83, even though it would have been advertised heavily and was a huge event for the canadians. i bet it was because gsp on the card, so they let showed a blind eye. all ufc has to do is book alves/gsp for ufc 97 and there won't be a problem.

<--- the punch that started it all!

My current favirote fighters
Anderson Silva
Junior Dos Santos
Mauricio Rua
Alistair Overeem
Jon Jones

WAR dan hardy, paul daley, ross pearson and terry etim doing it for the britz!

Exactly, Imagine GSP on the card, all of a sudden the headline is

"Canadian sports commission does not allow Canadian athlete of the year to fight at home"

As posted in the suplicate thread -

Still plenty of time to find an alternative venue and issue refunds to anyone not willing to travel. Or alternatively, still time to lobby the athletic commission to change the rules, or make an exception.

Either way i really don't care. I used to get annoyed by people that refused to allow MMA, but i've come to realise that they are the ones swimming against the tide these days; not MMA.

Hold the event elsewhere. Screw Montreal - their loss.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.

Where does it say no knees? The french article stated no hitting using the tip of the elbow. It says nothing about knees.

Right kick, Hospital.
Left kick, Cemetery.

This sucks but this is NOT A RULE CHANGE. As the law is worded MMA has always been illegal in Canada but some of the atheltic commissions (BC, Quebec, Alberta) were willing to look the other way. Now Quebec is saying it won't. So they aren't making a rule change they are just deciding to comply with the law.

Obviously it sucks and the law needs to be changed but the Athletic Commission doesn't really have any power here. Even if they say it is legal they don't make law. The UFC knows this is a risk for every event in Canada until the law is changed.

Bring it to Alberta, I'd love to see a UFC event.
