Machida is cheering for Jardine

Quote:
At UFC 86, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson had his belt pulled by Forrest Griffin in a unanimous – and controversy - decision. Returning from defeat with an impressive knockout on Wanderlei Silva, Rampage is one step closer to a titleshot, but one Brazilian is directly interested in the result of this fight. Undefeated after 14 fights in his career, six in the UFC, Lyoto Machida knocked Thiago Silva out in UFC 94, but must cheer for Keith Jardine’s victory against Quinton before in order to face the champion, Rashad Evans.

"I'm cheering for Jardine, but I think that Quinton is stronger, hits harder... I think Quinton is the favorite. I think I’ll have to wait a bit more", recognizes the fighter, who expects to make another fight over this period. "I could do one more fight, but only if they (UFC) give me a good opponent, a man with strong name. I don’t want to go down again. All that the UFC putted, I always joined, but now is time for me to start to ask a bit too".

"I'm waiting Quinton’s fight, but I’m not worried. Everyone was saying that, if I win (Thiago Silva), I’d fight for the belt, but it didn’t happen, but I’m not worried about that. Imagine if I were thinking about the next fight and lose this one? It's the same thing now, I'm here, solving some things and I'm already thinking about returning to Belém and practice my base for, then, start to worry about my next battle, either by title or not", said a confident Machida: "I just need to make good fights and it will happen…When I get there, it will be just party".

About the knockout against Thiago Silva, Lyoto celebrates his first knockout in the UFC. "We changed some things in the training, we started to get better opportunities for fights. My training is very technical. I’ve changed many things and it gave a positive result", celebrates the fighter, who couldn’t meet with the athlete of ATT after the fight. "I couldn’t talk to Thiago after the fight, I would like praise him. This is a professional thing, it’s not to be upset with each other... The fight happens in the octagon, and then it ends", concludes.

Wonder who they might give him if Rampage wins, someone with good name recognition.

Of course he wants Jardine to win. If Jardine wins then Machida will face Evans for the belt at UFC 100. But i do not see that happening. Rampage is going to demolish Jardine and then murder Evans. Rampage light heavyweight champion again!

Oh that would be good, if Rampage wins then give Machida Forrest.

Machida shouldnt have to wait and see what happens with the jardine fight. He deserves a title shot. Would it really be a problem to give him Rashad? and then have Rampage(if he beats jardine) fight the winner? I dont see why they didnt just do that.

I agree with Jord Jitsu. I know I have been very vocal about Machida being a tad bit overrated, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve a title shot because, truth be told, he does.

Being a huge Rashad Evans fan, I think think that Quinton is a slightly more dangerous opponent for Rashad than Machida because the fact of the matter is no matter how good your chin is, if somebody has knockout power and they connect..it's pretty much over. That said, I still think that Rashad could beat Quinton due to superior speed and wrestling. He won't strike Jackson.

Rashad vs Machida is a more interesting match up for me, which is something I would not have said 3 months ago. I think the match has potential to be MOTY calibre for 4 rounds (we all know the first round won't deliver much due to their counter styles).

I think even Machida knows that the UFC doesn't see him as being very marketable. That's why Rampage would be given a title fight before him. Rampage has a more recognizable personality and that sells more tickets. It's not really Machida's fault. I mean he has been beating his opponents fairly easily so most of the fights have not been that exciting. But his last fight was and there is no denying him his shot because he obviously has crazy skills! I have not been a fan of him but he is winning me over.

Forrest wont be recovered in time for a fight with Machida I would think. Dude is out for a year or so from what I remember. I think this is a fair enough deal right now though that he gets a shot if Jardine wins but has to wait just one more turn if the ex champ (who hasn't lost since losing his title) gets a good win.

Machida will get his shot soon enough and im sure he will get someone with a good name. IF the bring him back and knowing the UFC they may just give him Vera who is legit enough albeit over rated as hell 9or atleast he used to be.

I like Jackson and I like Machida too...but I want to see Jackson lose simply because I think Machida should get a shot.

Everything is too much about money..well ofcourse it is, but Machida is undefeated and kicks everyones arse put in front of him.

I think Jackson is a little stressed/pissed or missing home at the moment. Anyone see the interview on MMA Bay?
