No it woudlent have, leben would have took that shot easily. He took a 1,2 jab cross directlly to the button form anderson who hits a hell of allot harder than smith. then silva got on top of him and hammered away with punches tryign to finish him, leben just took them all as he was getting up. Silva's highkick towards the end was what actually hurt leben, and that was a very clean kick to the head, then a knee right to the head to finish him. he may have gotten schooled but his chin is undeniable.

Also, Leben's last fight was won with a lucky hay maker too. If I remember correctly he wasn't even looking at the fighter when he threw the punch for the KO.

And it is way too early for Smith nut hugging, no doubt, I wouldn't give him 2 minutes in the first round if he faces a submission expert. I am curious to see what he can do against a striker on Leben's level...who I think is a B level fighter. Just curious to see if Smith might be a B level fighter as well.

BUT

Still props to showing all the heart he did.
He fought Dave Terrel, and like I said he was winning the fight fairly easily until the ref mistake. Dave Terrel is a submission guy if I am not mistaken. And where the hell have you been hiding FunkDoctor??

That jab/cross combo you speak of were arm punches used to score and keep Leban off balance and unless your chin is glass they won't hurt, but rather annoy you.

Silva put the meat on his shots following a high left kick and a quick move to his left to set up the four punch combo that put Leben down. And, like Sell did witih Smith, Leban came at Silva with his CHIN UP. I don't care if you have a chin of granite if you get caught right, you will be hurt or knocked out.

Look at Smith's technique when he threw the punch. It had all his weight behind it and he turned it over well at the very end of the shot getting his shoulder and hips into it like he's supposed to and it caught Sell right on the point of his chin (the KO SWEET SPOT). Yes, every chin can be dented as it's not a matter of who hits harder but rather the technique being used as I've seen far too many greats have it happen to them to think otherwise.

And these were guys with GREAT chins, which I still believe they posses this day though I've seen them hurt or KOed before.

Good post....Scott's KO power doesn't come from his physical build...obviously, but rather he just knows how to punch correctly. I think it is funny when you see fighters in there that don't even know how to punch the proper way. Arm punching and shit hahahaha. Mike Zambidis and Kid Yamamoto definately know the correct way to punch.

I was taught a long time ago that heavy muscles negatively affect power across the arc of a punch simply because the power of a shot is largely dependant upon flexibility for a greater range of motion, the building of fast twitch muscle fibers to generate speed and force and strength (the right kind) for the body from the foot on up to the arm being fired. If you are out of line across any of these elements your punches lose effect.

Hence my comparison between Silva's initial combos on up to the combo that he put the heat on thus putting Leben on his ass.

I don't think I'll ride the Scott Smith Nutthugging train just let! His fight with Sell was awesome and he did give Terral a run for his money. But he was destroyed by Travis Lutter so he's not quite ready to fight a real contender just let!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

Silva barely turned the one-two over and Leben was knocked off balance, however after turning the shots over on the second combo Silva had Leben down....and dazed.

I would like to see him fight leban I am sure he would lose however. The kid does have KO power but he seems to panic when he is on the bottom. I will give you his last fight as a great brawl.
