i posted a thread right after the silva/franklin fight saying that tanner would be a great guy to bring back to challenge silva. the reason i thikn this is because...
1. he has a pretty solid ground game, and the general consensus has been thats what it will take to defeat the champ.
2. he spent time with chute boxe, and imo rudimar would be more than happy to train evan to fight silva.

im not saying that evan will win for sure, or that by training with chute boxe will gaurentee a win for evan. i do however believe that if evan moved to brazil and concentrated on muay thai and getting himself together physically and mentally he could be a force in the mw div again. if chute boxe can teach him how to strike like them, he could be very dangerous. id like to see anderson stay champ for awhile. but id also like to see some guys give him a run for his money. good luck evan, i hope things work out.

I don't know! Evan did have trouble striking with Rich Franklin and lost his title in the process! Anderson Silva is a much better striker then Rich! I really can't see Tanner holding his own in this match!

tanner would get murdered. he's needs to be able to beat silva in an aspect of the game to give him a chance. His standup isnt even close and anderson has a blackbelt in bjj which is just as good as evan tanner's grappling video lessons he originally learned from. But thats not to put tanner out because he has good enough takedowns in my opinion to take silva down eventually and good enough standup not to get knocked out in the first minute or two if he fights defensively. If tanner gets top position he can rain down those punches and elbows. His ground and pound is the one weapon he has against silva, silva may not have ever faced anyone with as good of gnp as tanner but hes fought guys who are better on the ground and survived.

A Wanderlei Silva interview revealed that Chute Boxe Acadamy goes through a process in considering ANY future issues that may arise from taking on fighters who want to train at their facility.

But I don't think it's necessary for him to train at Chute Boxe to defeat Silva as that could be done by making adjustments to his current training and brining in quality sparring needed to prepare him properly.

It would be very good for tanner to go train at chute box but hes gotta get in shape before he goes there. And i dont see why they are thinking he will fight silva....hes gonna need a good few fights before he gets a title shot again.
They want him to fight Silva and win for one reason. Chute Boxe looks at Silva as a backstabber. He trained with them for a long time then went to BTT(which is their long time rival).

im aware of the beef but still wouldent chute box think its a waste to train tanner until he at least proves hes a fighter again.hes gonna need 3+ fights to even get a title shot and has already been beaten by the former mw champ and the former mw contender that just lost to another contender. Evans status at mw isnt solid at all plus hes just been doing nothing but drinking, partying and going on road trips. i dont get why the worlds best team would devote, being that i hear the first timers there have to go through hell to become part of the team .Evan might be able to hold his own if him and the rest of the team are are drunk fighting on motorcylces. I was a tanner fan before he became an alcolholic and started running a reality show on his myspace account.

heres some info on silva

Biography

[edit] Martial arts background
Anderson Silva began his martial arts training in Taekwondo at the age of 14. [2]

Although known primarily for his skills in Muay Thai, Silva is also well-versed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2005, Anderson Silva earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.[3]

[edit] Mixed martial arts career
Silva fought in the Mecca organization in Brazil. Silva lost his first fight to Luiz Azeredo by decision. After that fight, he went on a nine-fight winning streak, defeating six of those opponents within the time limit allotted. His first match in Japan was against Shooto Champion Hayato Sakurai. Silva was the first person to beat Sakurai, and became the new Shooto Middleweight(167 lb) Champion.

[edit] PRIDE Fighting Championships and Cage Rage
In 2002, Silva began fighting in PRIDE Fighting Championships. In his first fight with the promotion, he stopped Alex Steibling due to a cut resulting from a high kick. In his next match, he won via decision against the "Diet Butcher" Alexander Otsuka. At PRIDE 25, Silva faced Carlos Newton. Newton tried to shoot in on Silva, but was hit with a flying knee. Newton collapsed and Silva finished the fight with strikes, winning by technical knockout.

At PRIDE 26, Silva faced Daiju Takase. Considering his record at the time – with only four wins to seven losses – most predicted that Takase would not win. Surprisingly, Takase submitted Silva with a triangle choke late in the first round.

After his loss to Takase, Silva fought in other promotions around the world. On June 27, 2004, Silva fought Jeremy Horn and earned a clear decision victory, though Horn pulled his groin early in the first round. Three months later, Silva made his debut in the Cage Rage promotion in England. At Cage Rage 8 Silva fought and defeated UFC veteran – and noted striker – Lee Murray by decision.

That year, Silva returned to PRIDE on December 31. His opponent was Ryo Chonan. The fight was back-and-forth, with no fighter gaining a dominating advantage up until the third round, but Chonan executed a slick flying scissor heel hook, forcing Silva to submit.

After the loss to Chonan, Silva continued fighting in the Cage Rage promotion, as well as other promotions around the world. Silva defended his Cage Rage title against Curtis Stout before fighting in Hawaii's Rumble on the Rock promotion, where he fought Yushin Okami in the first round of the 175 lb tournament. Although he was labeled as the favorite to win the tournament, Silva lost his fight when he kicked Okami in the face from the guard position. Okami's knees were on the ground at the time, making the attack an illegal strike to the head of a downed opponent. Silva was disqualified, and returned to Cage Rage once again.

Although he was slated to fight Matt Lindland at Cage Rage 16, Lindland's commitments to the World Fighting Alliance prevented the match from taking place. Instead, Silva defended his championship against Tony Fryklund, winning the fight by knockout early in the first round.

[edit] Ultimate Fighting Championship
Although speculation ran rampant about where Silva would sign next, the UFC announced in late April that they had signed Anderson Silva to a multi-fight contract, one of these fights believed to be for the Middleweight title. It wasn't long before the UFC started promoting Silva, releasing an interview segment almost immediately after announcing his arrival. [4]

Silva made his anticipated debut at Ultimate Fight Night 5 on June 28, 2006. His opponent was to be Chris Leben, a contestant from The Ultimate Fighter 1 reality show who had since gone undefeated in the UFC with five consecutive victories. Despite being a relatively unknown fighter in the United States, Silva made an emphatic debut when he knocked out Leben with a flurry of strikes, followed by a final knee strike at 49 seconds into the first round. In response to the victory, the UFC quickly tallied a poll on their main page, asking participants to select Silva's next opponent; the majority of voters selected UFC Champion, Rich Franklin.

Although it is unknown whether the UFC voters had any bearing on the situation, Silva was given his chance at the title at UFC 64 on 14 October 2006. Silva defeated Rich Franklin by TKO (Strikes) at 3:59 in the first round. Silva hit Franklin with knees to the body in the Muay Thai clinch, then broke Franklin's nose with a knee to the face. Unable to strike back, Franklin dodged the last of Silva's strikes before falling to the ground, ending the fight. Silva was then crowned the new UFC Middleweight Champion. Anderson Silva joins Ryoto Machida as the only other man to have beaten Rich Franklin.

His next fight will be against The Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Travis Lutter in Febuary 2007 at UFC 67.

Dude tanner is/was a solid fighter. Way better than the reality show chumps the UFC is filling it's ranks with these days. He had two rough losses to Franklin and Lousieou (sp?) but he's a real tough dude, randy couture style tough. Check out some older tapes of his. He just needs good training and a little dry up time and I think he's good to go. Plus, at his last fight he looked great and said that he had switched up his training, finished off justin levens with a textbook traingle. I wonder what the hell made him go off the deep end?

Tanner could beat Silva via takedown & elbows of pain. I think it wouldn't be too too tough for him either. The key would be not dropping from the blows he will take attempting the takedown and not burning out the ole gas tank.
