People are getting more slippery. Less submissions, less time on the ground, people getting up far easier.

A lot of it IMO has to do with the fact the UFC LHW and HW divisions have basically turned into K-1 with 5 oz gloves. Almost none of the guys in those divisions have real submissions skills.

Also this IMO has to do with guys improving on the ground. Almost every top fighter can defend legit submissions from a solid guy now. They aren't going to stop Demian Maia or anyone else at that level but they can stop the basic moves from a solid grappler which lessens the number of submissions.

I find this interesting so I though it would be an interesting discussion point. Is this a decline in top level BBJ guys int he UFC or has everyone's training evolved to the point where they are good at sub defense.

The three subs have been Belcher vs Kang which was a bit of a surprise, Mike Ces... against Neil Grove and that was a rookie error on Grove's part I remember correctly I've been drinking so I may not remember correctly and Maia against Sonnen and that was amazing.

Any thoughts

ps Ive discounted the UFN cos I'm too lazy
There does seem to be a lot less one dimensional BJJ guys, which is a good thing, I'm very sick of them. Only Maia is cool because his BJJ is practically perfect and its cool to watch.

This. Its a phase, with guys like Anderson Silva, Brock Lesnar and Rashad Evans as champions, fighters see the importance of striking. After Demain Maia wins a few more fighters will focus on submission alot more, Demain Maia will to to MMA today what Royce Gracie did in the early days.

No but they should allow tights. I've never understood why they are banned. That would help guys with rubber guards get submissions.

Mir, Big Nog, Gonzaga. I'm sure there are some in the LHW but I can't think of any right now as I'm tired.
