Brydon- that's a great breakdown.

One thing I bring up his about the striking- Johnson is much faster and quicker with his strikes than Brown is. I think that will play a big role in the stand-up department and the fact he works with Cung Le has only helped his kicking game like what he did to Kevin Burns in their "rematch".

Brown is a tough SOB that's why I do think this a great match up and he also has advantages in other areas. If I can to call I'd still go Johnson but it very very close match-up IMO.

Brown could finish Johnson on the ground, but I don't think he'll be able to take him down. Standing up, Johnson has the edge, so I'm picking him. I believe it's going to be a good fight though.

Matt "Mother****ing" Brown, has great stand up skills. Very aggressive yet accurate and effective. He is good at landing knees in the clinch, has good boxing and good head kicks. He destroyed his last opponent standing.

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson also has good stand up skills, however his stand up is much more based on speed and power than any technical ability. He has a great straight right and a powerful head kick if he can land it, however I feel Matt Brown has the kicking advantage. Luigi Fioriavanti gave Johnson some real problems in the stand up in his last fight (if memory serves me correctly). He made him look tentative, gunshy and pretty much ineffective until the knockout came. Now if fioriavanti (A guy with little striking experience and a large reach disadvantage) can do that to Johnson I see Matt Brown giving him a ton of trouble.

Striking Battle goes to - Matt Brown

Now on to the wrestling. On paper Johnson has a large wrestling advantage and I see him taking Matt Brown down frequently with double legs, also Matt Brown has shown his wrestling isn't his strong point in the past. However, Matt Brown is no slouch when it comes to wrestling and his scrappy, aggressive, never give up attitude to some extent makes up for a lack of technical ability and physical prowess. Despite this Johnson still has a wrestling advantage and he will put Brown on his back.

Wrestling Battle goes to - Anthony Johnson

And finally, the ground game. Johnson has shown little ability on the ground but to be fair he has'nt been there that often. Brown has shown he is very capable of winning fights off his back and he has a good submission game, although he would much rather have his fights standing.

Submission advantage - Brown
Top position advantage - Johnson

In my opinion the fight goes like this. Both guys start off a little cautious due to the other guys power but after a few minutes Brown starts landing and flusters Johnson who then takes him down, this is pretty much how I see the whole fight going as I don't see either guy KOing the other. The question for me is can Brown submit Johnson off his back and IMO this will decide the fight.

I personally think Brown can and will submit Johnson off his back, probably towards the end of the third round. What do you guys think?

P.S I train MMA twice a week at a small Gym called Mcleouds MMA Academy and Jiu-Jitsu 3 times a week at Brazillian top team under Ze Marcello here in the UK. Never mentioned that before and figured this is as good a time as any.
Good points but you have to remember something about Fioravanti. he is a decent striker with a lot of power himself. He is also a decent wrestler so Johnson had to worry about the take down. It was in his best interest to fight smart. If he were overly aggressive, it could have led to him being taken down. Against Brown, I don't think he has to worry about that because he has a clear wrestling advantage.

I think he showed fairly good top positioning against Kevin Burns who is decent off of his back like Brown is. He also has a submission win off of his back against Roan Carneiro which was impressive. I think Rogan even commented on his flexibility and Johnson shrugged off everything he threw at him. That may be significant here.

They are both good standing so I do think it will probably come down to how it goes on the ground. I can agree with that. I would probably pick Johnson by decision if I had to choose.

I think Anthony Johnson is a future champion, give him some years of experience and training and he could be the most dangerous fighter at WW.

I give this fight to Johnson by KO. He is so impressive, getting Knock out after knock out. He's fluent, explosive, and accurate with his strikes, and with Cung Le he'll only get better. His switch right high kick on Burns was amazing.

Thought it was a lead left head kick?

I agree that Johnson is the more explosive striker, I just get the impression he does'nt like to get hit and exchange very much, something that Brown will feed off. He seemed to shoot in on burns whenever burns had any success striking even though he was getting the better out of it, he also seemed fearful of Fioriavanti's strikes.

I agree that he may have been tentative as he was worried about the takedown by Fioriavanti, you've also made me re-consider Browns ablity to sub Johnson off his back with the comment about Burns. Hmmm, maybe I shall have to re-consider my pick. Good feedback guys.

Very exciting fight and I can't wait. This should be a really good test for both of these guys. I don't see Johnson pummeling him on the stand up, Matt Brown can hold up well. On the ground, I see Brown being able to sub him.

I think this is a great analysis. I agree Matt brown has an advantage in standup, especially in the clinch, but i don't think that advantage is as great as the wrestling advantage of johnson. I can't remember the exact fight, where he was taken down at will. Unless he has improved in that department, I still think his tdd is suspect at best. I think if johnson comes in with a solid gameplan I see him dictating this fight because he has the ability to choose where the fight goes.
However I am notorious for giving wrestlers too much credit so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
