Anthony Johnson vs. Matt Brown at TUF 9 Finale

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - by Damon Martin - Just weeks after the proposed match-up between Anthony Johnson and John Howard fell through, Johnson now has a new opponent as "Ultimate Fighter" season 7 competitor, Matt Brown, has been tapped as a replacement to fight on the "Ultimate Fighter" season 9 finale show.

The fight was confirmed to by sources close to the fight on Tuesday.

Matt Brown steps into the fight with Johnson coming off of a first round knockout win over Pete Sell at UFC 96 in early March. Brown caught Sell early in the round, but referee Yves Lavigne allowed the action to continue, which led to the Ohio native punishing his opponent for another series of strikes before the fight was stopped.

Now holding a 3-1 record in the Octagon with his lone loss being a controversial decision to Dong Hyun Kim in Sept 2008, Brown hopes to build on his current win streak in June when he faces a very game opponent in Anthony Johnson.

Johnson, who trains with Cung Le's team in California, is a fast rising star in the UFC's welterweight division. Known for his outstanding wrestling and powerful strikes, Johnson last fought Luigi Fioravanti in February, winning by TKO in the first round over the American Top Team fighter.

The bout between Johnson and Brown will most likely make the televised broadcast which will feature the finals of the lightweight and welterweight divisions for the reality show, along with the main event pitting Diego Sanchez against Clay Guida.

I like this match-up it's two guys that have been showing a lot of improvement and are up and coming but need to see if they can start making some head way up the WW ladder. Either one with a win should see a significant bump in level from their next opponent to see if they can enter contendership statis.

Tough fight but I'll take Rumble on this one.

Should be a good fight, I wont write off Brown yet I did when he took on Dong Kim and he brought the fight so to say he cant compete with Johnson would IMP be absurd, Im not sure how good Brown is at defending against wrestling which will be what I think decides the fight.

The rugged redneck white guy vs The very athletic black guy. The UFC knows what they are doing.

I love the way Matt Brown fights.
Now that I've got that out of the way though, I don't see this going well for Brown at all. He's been improving but he doesn't want to bang with Johnson.
I would love to see Brown win this one but I see Johnson finishing this one fairly quickly.

This will be exciting Brown can bang with Anthony Johnson I think but Rumble will probably take him down and pound him out. The stand up in this fight will be very fun to watch. Johnson has more power and is getting more and more technical on his feet and I think Brown is the more precise striker and uses his length very well. Should be good.

What the Hell does "Their Race" have to do with Anyting??

I, and I'm sure others here, find that comment unnecessary.

On the fight: This fight has me excited. As a GSP fan, Johnson is a fighter that has me nervous. Brown on the other hand has looked real good.
This should be a great fight, a solid test for Johnson.

I'm loving this match up. Both of these guys have looked great in their past fights and both seem to keep improving.

This fight, however will go to Johnson. I said I wasn't going to go against Brown anymore. But I think Anthony Johnson will pick him apart.
