Matt Hughes is not an older generation fighter

I have seen a few posts saying Hughes' prototype as a fighter is past. I can't agree with this, I think Hughes knows the MMA game and knows how to be well rounded. He just got beat by someone who is a lot more talented. Maybe as the sport grows though, you will see more explosive athletes like GSP that will be hard to beat though

No he isnt a very old fighter per say. However what we are seeing is the death of the pure wrestler in MMA. Everyone and their dog is working on takedown defence. If you got a good one and you can strike you can demolish guys who rely on it to win.

Hughes lacks a stand up game of any significant quality. It has been very evident for a long time now. You simply cant be in this game on the top without a very good stand up game now.

Yeah that's true .. but to Matt's credit he tried to improve it, I think he knew what he had to do but stand up is just not his strength and as guys like GSP, BJ and Silva come in, it's just going to be harder and harder
