Hughes hurt by leg kicks?

Just looked at the fight again and did anyone think that Hughes was really hurt by the two "Groin" kicks - which really were upper thigh kicks that injured Hughes' leg, not groin and he got an unfair chance to recover? If you watch closely, Hughes is really limping on the left leg when he tries to get up after the two kicks. Certainly GSP's use ofleg kicks nullified Hughes' skills - he had no takedowns probably in part due to the legs being gone and looked very flat moving around the ring.

What say you?

Hughes said himself in the post fight interview the second kick did not hit him in the groin but hit him in the upper inner thigh

Really? Pretty good ofhim to admit it, GSP looked like he was upset when they stopped the fight again and certainly by how long Hughes took to recover, he could have ended it right there.

I don't remember if Hughes was really in any trouble up to that point in the fight, maybe he went down because he thought he would feel that "delayed reaction pain" ... I don't think Hughes stopped because he needed to recover from any beating he was taking at that point ... of course things changed soon after that ...

yeah he said he never got hit directly in the groin but when he was kicked it hit a nerve and hurt his leg all the way up to his groin...

At least he finally admitted it after the number of times he has had fights stopped to recover (most famously with BJ Penn "poke", what a joke).

The 2nd one did hit him in the bottom of the cup, which, will cause a bit of pain in the groin.

Georges sapped Hughes' platform strength with chopping leg kicks throughout the fight. He hit many inside and outside kicks including at least four or five high inner-thigh kicks that purpled Hughes. Hughes was battered by the kicks and eventually couldn't check them well enough. At one point GSP went for a kick above the knee, Hughes lifted to get over top of it, and GSP followed through and swept the other leg, flooring Hughes.

This is one of the main reasons Hughes couldn't get GSP down. George hurt Matt's legs and limited his explosiveness. The leg kicks, along with Hughes' poor gameplan and GSP's excellent sprawling and grappling, where the three main factors in the victory.
