I just moved to tahoe, and watched the fights in a casino. With me being new I had to ask them how the odds work. if there is a (-) in front of the guys name he is the favorite. You have to bet that much to win a dollar ex. -280 bet $2.80, win $1.00. other way around a (+)is what you would win if you bet a dollar ex +150 bet $1.00 win $1.50. this was explained to me at the sports bar by the guys taking the bets in nevada
stevenson was the favorite to win the fight
just as hughes, silvia, and vera all had a (-) as their odds

Makes u wonder, now that vegas sets
odds on these fights and we all know how little the fighters make.

Doese anyone have any thoughts on this?
OMG mannn... i thought somethin was up but i didnt want to say anythin to be one of those ***s on this site who say everything was rigged...

but after the first guillitine.. it was like he kept putting his head in the same spot to get choked even tho he could feel joe goin for it...

on a serious tip.... thats the first fight i have ever seen that i think may have been shady.. especially since the betting odds

I don't want to believe that UFC "throws" bouts...but the way Mishima just stayed on the ground, escaping one guillotine, then just basically putting himself into the 2nd....and never trying to advance his position in between chokes - makes me a little skeptical.

I F'N hope not.

Cool Probably Fixed!

Mashidamima(however you spell it) is a WORLD CLASS fighter and he is not gonna be as popular in the U.S. just like alot of other WORLD CLASS fighters aren't. UFC has been around for over a decade and there are other full contact sports that have been out for longer. Alot of people are JUST NOW getting into UFC and they are seeing the new generation fighters and thinking they are the best or what not-And knowing nothing about the pioneers of the sport that made it what it is today. There is K-1, Pride, etc..and the purses for UFC aren't all that great if you only rely on that division. Prime example of how BJ Penn lost his belt...arbitration of UFC contract for fighting over seas after he defeated Matt Hughes the first time! They took his belt and he had to practically start all over to get his belt back...well, obviously he didnt get it back. Joe Stephenson is a beast but with his fight VS Luke Kumo and the last fight he lost before UFC 65...he proved to be very beatable. But this fight was his first pro ufc fight at this weight class and if he was a beast in the higher weight class what makes you think he wouldnt be beast in a lower one? It prob. was fixed if you factor the time and money these fighter spend preparing for a UFC bout. Mashima was well in his 30's and prob. figures he can do this forever...since he isn't gettin any younger. But...if that fight was fixed then the HUGHES and GSP fight definitely was fixed because HUGHES was destroyed and didn't even lay a finger on GSP!!! why the heck would he try and stand-up with him if he knew it didn't work against Penn? Thats like sayin why would Mashima stick his head in JOE DADDY's armpit 4x if he knew he could get submitted?

So my answer is YES! the chances are higher for it being fixed, I mean look at the finale of TUF(the comeback) Serra definitely lost that one but the judges for some reason ($$) felt otherwise!?!?

Great post! Although I have to add that Joe Daddy did beat Yves Edwards before this fight @ LW. Remember all that blood??? He lost to Neer at 170. Joe is a lot better at 155, but I don't think he is good enough to guillotine someone like Mishima 4 times in 1 round. That's just ridiculous.

And the Serra fight, one of the judges scored it 30-27...which tells me he was either sleeping, or he was the one judge instructed to score it that way to be positive Serra got the win in case another judge disagreed. Same with the Karo/Diego fight. Someone scored it 30-27. And the Bonnar/Jardine fight, someone scored it 30-26 I think. And the Tito/Forrest fight also had a 30-26 in there if I'm not mistaken.

Here's a video of Mishima:

YouTube - Dokonjonosuke Mishima Highlight by Rip Dorey

I mean, you figure he's good enough to even have a highlight reel he would do a lot better than his crappy "put my neck on your armpit" plan.

He seems more like a genki sudo with all his wierd entrances and wierd fighting moves.

I actually put my money on Mishima and thought he had a decent chance to submit Joe Stevenson.

In the begining of the fight he had that nice backward lateral drop takedown which got me excited...

Then he got in a guillotine and after he got out - I thought he would learn his lesson and not put his head there - but no no, Mishima puts his head right under his armpit to finally get submitted.

Really disappointed...

I didn't even know about the point drop and that would really explain why Mishima pretty much gave Stevenson his neck.

Stevenson's conversation with Mishima after he tapped

Well, if you watched the fight you'll remember that as soon as the fight was called, Joe sat up and started talking to Mishima. Now I know this isn't uncommon, and he coulda been saying anything...but now that I am informed about these Vegas odds drastically increasing 5 minutes before the fight, I can only imagine what he was saying...

"Sorry man, I know it must suck making your UFC debut in this way, and I could tell you were having second thoughts about it since it took 4 tries before you finally tapped, but I'm sure you will be much happier after you get your paycheck. Good luck in the future and thanks for cooperating with our corrupt organization."
