I will agree that the guys could make more.

But the UFC is still recovering. In 2004, they were almost ready to file bankruptcy. Zuffa bought the UFC for something like 2 million dollars (it was sinking that bad.) And in 2004, they were ready to fold because the debt was stated as high as 40 million and as low as 20 million. That's only 2 years ago... the money they spend on advertising, venues, etc. on top of that debt, they are probably still recovering. Once the UFC hits full profit (probably within the next year) we'll see salary bumps I'm sure.

UFC isn't like boxing. The promoters gets everything set up and guaranteed X dollars. UFC has to rent the place, promote the fight, pay for pretty much everything involved in the fight, since they don't have HBO or Showtime like boxing does to do the PPV part of it.

The salaries will go up. PRide is notorious for paying more for their fighters (Fedor making 1 million in one single fight) so why do you think guys like Anderson Silva came over, and rumors of Aleks if the UFC still paid way less than Pride does?

Of course i believe they should get a percentage of the total money made by UFC
From what i hear the new UFC peeps have been makeing a loss for a long time, so makeing money now will cover it.

But of course i believe the fighters should make a large percente of the profits, but as that grows so does the money the fighters make until they only fight for the money and not the crowd. Most anyway.

But as for the execs, they front the millions with no guarentee, if the fighters got most of this (as believe, most of them can just "fight") they would never get the backing.

I was just saying $100k is a lot and not to be pissed upon.

Guys, I agree with all of you on this, I started a thread about this and was chewed out. Everyone was saying that the pay wasn't so bad etc. etc. I have said it before and I'll say it again The UFC needs to re-structure the pay-outs not neccessarily increase them.

These are ref'd by pro's who's job is to stop them getting seriously hurt, hell id take $100,000 for a broken arm.
I risk a punch up every day in my job, and my job doesnt even involve violence...
Well I agree $100,000 is nothing to piss upon but only a few fighter make that much. Rich Franklin only pursed $22,000 for getting his ass handed to him. And he was the champ! $22,000 is ridiculous for a potential 5-rounder! Most guys make between $2000- $20000 per fight. That is lame. Chuck, Randy, Hughes, Sylvia, Gracie, Ortiz are about the only ones who purse more than 100k a fight.

Actually now that I think about it I don't know if Sylvia breaks 100k at all.

Well, if that's true, maybe i stand corrected. I had NO idea the UFC was on the verge of bankruptcy 2 years ago - you sure about that? i thought their pay per views were always killer.

But thats BEFORE PPV money, endoresement money etc. In the end i bet he got near $200,000 easy. He got PAID $22,000 directly from UFC for the fight. As in most sports, they get a LOT of money from other sources.

And IMO $200,000 is a lot of money for getting your ass kicked

Yea that's true, but none of us know for sure that he got any PPV revenue, since they don't tell us. Maybe that's why they don't tell us?? Make us guess and assume?

Yup, well documented fact. UFC was about to be gone forever if it wasn't for the TUF show reviving it. That's why guys like Ortiz came back to the UFC after leaving it, BJ Penn, Jens Pulver, etc. They were making nearly nothing, and now they can make some decent loot. You guys can even look in Wikipedia, from UFC 62 on to the present they have the purses listed (65's hasn't come out yet.)

The money these guys make is ONLY what the UFC discloses as a salary, that's it. Rich Franklin only got 22k SALARY, but he got bonuses from PPV draw for his name, Xyience sponsorship, whoever is on his trunks, etc. etc. etc. Rich did well enough to buy a new nose I am sure of that.

Just remember guys, the salaries disclosed are not all the fighter is given. And if you want them to up the pay too much, we'll get shittier fights and vets that get stomped by hungry newcomers. Just like all other sports. Example:

I went to see an NBA preseason game in my hometown, which is a huge deal because we don't have any pro teams. It's the Lakers and the Timberwovles. I'm thinking, Great! I get to see Kobe Bryant and Latrell Spreewell, a once in a lifetime deal! - Kobe played 3 minutes of each quarter and didn't do much, Spreewell didn't even play because he had a "sore thigh."

Long ago, I had tickets to see the Bulls, another huge deal. My lifetime chance at seeing Michael Jordan. 2 weeks before the game, the union lockout started. Never got to see him (or my money back for the tickets.)

We start giving these guys out too much dough, then we will have cancelled PPV's due to strikes, guys like Chuck getting way too comfortable in their money and going "Dana I think I'm only gonna fight once this year, I don't want to hurt myself."

Let it go it's course, the money is increasing, and the pay PER fight thing is GENIUS over giving these guys X dollars per year.

Hey guys - someone sent me a link to this discussion.

I have posted the official UFC 65 salaries (straight from the California State Athletic Commission) here.

These numbers, of course, don't include the various "secret" bonuses the UFC pays many of its top fighters for PPV buys, etc.

Hope this helps.
