I think he is very overated. Even though he had overcome alot of good UFC fgithers he lost to some of the ebst UFC fighters. I really don't enjoy watching him. He might have some good techneques but he gets lucky most of the time and I am glad the GSP is new welterweight champion!

Overrated? maybe by some, like the people saying he would kill GSP.

But overated in general...nah.

He's a great MMA champ and a awsome wrestler.

His downfall was wanting to stand up with GSP. He has the "jock" mentality. He's always said he's wanted to knock someone out, and that is what he tried and got dealt with. If he stayed with the ground game he "may" have won.

Now that was not a great post. I dont like Matt hughes as a person but I sure respect him as a fighter. Now you knew people where going to rip into you for a post like this. A guy who beats alot of good fighters and has been champion for a long time is not overared my friend. Yes he has shitty standup but the guy is strong as a bull and has dominated everyone with his ground and pound.....he is a smart fighter and used it to his advantage. I was happy to see Hughes lose to GSP because he finally lost to someone with better all around mma but dont ever underestimate a champion. GSP deserves to be champion but I never want to here a great fighter who has a 44-5 record and beat guys like Gracie, Penn, GSP, Newton, RIggs etc be overated.

And thats the end of that Folks.....

I wouldnt say greatest champion ever because, well lets face it, he is good but not the best. But I will however say he is in no way overrated.
Whos a better champion than Matt Hughes then? Tito Ortiz? Frank Shamrock? Not even close. Matt Hughes has defended it more than anyone, he basically held it from UFC 34-65 which is 5 years besides the loss to Penn. Mach Sakurai was undefeated, just a killing machine only loss to a middleweight, Hughes dominated him. Carlos Newton, no joke either. The only lame defenses were against Gil Castillo and Joe Riggs but other than that hasn't had an easy night.
