Is Matt VERY confident, YES.
But is he a complete JACKASS? NO!!
When you win over and over and over again, it's hard to not be confident. Did Matt Hughes take George lightly? Like Matt said "It's pretty hard to take someone like George lightly" and Matt has said he trained the hardest ever for this fight. George simply got the better of Matt, like many of us suspected, and Matt admitted it.
Was matt surprised? OF COURSE!
Even thoug Matt knew thta the math said he was probably 50/50(at best) AND had some technical disadvantages in the fight, Matt's heart must have told him he was good as gold. This slight disilluion is what occurs when you haven't lost in forever. But more to the point, its how a fighter should feel ANYWAY. No fighter should go into a fight expecting to lose.
Matt Hughes was never overrated, he is a great fighter and strong as a bull. His record speaks for itself and why would anyone consider him overrated? Because he's [arguably/probably] worse than BJ Penn and GSP? Those two guys are UNBELEIVABLE, to be in the same class as them is a lifetime achievement. To have BEATEN them BOTH(no matter what hte circumstances), is an AMAZING feat. Sure i'll have to take away a lot from the BJ penn win, but Hughes is still an amazing fighter. I pray he gets at least 2 fights before he runs into GSP and Penn again so people can see how truly strong he really is. Everyone knows Karo and Diego are beasts yet we all expect hughes to crush them. We all respect Karo and Diego a great deal, so how can you think Matt is overrated?
Just trying to bring some perspective. I look up to Hughes and GSP a great deal and admire them for every time they get into the ring. The only reason i was cheering for GSP is because I had $3K on him and he turned it into a nice 7.5K. =)
Good post bud !!!! but Hughes is BETTER then Penn, he proved it a couple of months ago by smashing his skull into the ground.... anyways, anytime you get GSP, Hughes and BJ, and put them up against each , on any given night one of these fighters can beat the other. There alll A Level fighters, therefore they always have a chance in a fight
"I only want to be known as the best ever, is that too much to ask?" - BJ Penn
